R MHGERD - 2016 Golf R DSG Oryx White

Hi All,

I've been meaning to start one of these for a few months now, here goes!

Previous car - 2012 VW CC:

VW CC VMR V702 by Jon Collier, on Flickr

CC26530rearqtr by Jon Collier, on Flickr

GIAC Stage 2, FBO, VMR V702 19x9.5 with 265/30 Pilot Super Sports
Dyno'd 252/331 wheel at AU Tuning on E30 "race mode" tune

Talking with another forum member (whom I blame entirely for this) I was asked "If you keep buying parts to make your CC an "R", why not just buy a Golf R?"

Beginning of the end right there.

CC hits Craigslist and I think there is no way I'll sell this car modded as it is. Within 2 weeks I've got a cash buyer. Jumped through a few hoops to make this happen.

April 16, 2016 - Picked up at Galpin VW

Like the build thread.
The CC is just so good looking.
Enjoy the R. You picked a good color, again!

Thanks! I loved my CC and really spent a lot of time building it, but the bottom line was it was always going to be FWD and it seemed like a waste adding power to some extent. The R just makes more sense, in the most nonsensical way haha.

Damn! that Oryx pearl white looks so good

Thank you! Love the Oryx pearl, but it is super hard to photograph. This one is a bit more accurate:

Yeah, that's what you get with public parking structures :/ Definitely not my trash, I swear!

Better than parking it on the street like I did with the CC. I lost count how many times the car was run into by people parallel parking. No respect.

I love my choice of intakes! I know there are a lot of options, and the price tag on the 034 might be a bit high, but it's made amazingly well, is subtle enough noise wise but still adds some flavor (didnt want an open filter), fitment was on point, and it looks great in the bay. I have to agree 100% with the dynos that they have posted, before and after, the car definitely felt woken up, especially on the top end.

I also have to say that 034 is a stand up company, not just in the process of buying from them, or speed of shipping, but I received a package from them recently that had a small black aluminum plate to cover the rear "resonance" chamber of the lower airbox. They hadn't designed anything for that initially because it would only be for aesthetics, but they received some feedback and acted on it. I assume all new intakes will have that in the box, but mine was sent separately with a letter explaining what it was and why. That type of thing speaks volumes about a company IMO.

Small update:

I ordered an ECS Stance Kit 15mm front/20mm rear, should be in next week. I also ordered a 034 dogbone insert, which being DSG might not do as much as a 6MT but I'm going to give it a shot. I liked it on my CC, there was a slight improvement without any real NVH changes.

Also ordered a metal oil pan to be swapped with my first oil change. Cheap insurance for when I'm lowered with some of the roads around here. Even at stock height I'm clenched rolling over pavement rises and the like.

Got some tools, a jack and jack stands to go with my new house/garage as well. So happy to be able to do simple projects at home now, like wheel spacers and oil changes :)
