car looks really good, Congrats. Thanks for posting the updates. Did you ever take the car to the track? Just wondering what mph you are getting down the 1/4 mile strip.

Thanks!

Thanks a ton! No, I still haven't gotten her to the track. Honestly I'd like to start with some AutoX. I suppose I should give the 1/4 a shot. The main thing holding me up right now is lack of upgraded engine/trans mounts. I've been waiting for 034 to release theirs for a few months now. I just don't feel comfortable with it until I have most of my supporting mods done, and I think upgrading engine/trans mounts at these power levels is important... Once I get those in I'll get more serious about getting my ass to the track. Need some better tires, too! But I guess if I wait until I have everything I want, I'll probably never go, huh? Next year I will try hard to do a lot of AutoX and a track day or two!

Congratulations on an awesome build! How do you like that stage 2 clutch? Did you get any noticeable chatter with it? I didn't hear any in the sound clip of the exhaust.

Also, how do you like that Wavetrac LSD? Does it fit and perform well? Have you noticed a substantial enhancement in traction and power delivery?

Thanks! The Southbend Stage 2 daily has been treating me pretty well! Minimal increase in pedal effort, it feels pretty good. Honestly, I wish I would've gone ahead and gotten stage 3 for peace of mind, but Stage 2 is rated at 465 at the crank, and it doesn't look like I'm going to be getting over 400 TQ at the wheels anytime soon. There is some chatter with it for sure, but it's not annoying at all. You can't really hear it outside the car, only inside when you don't have any music playing at a stand still. Again, the chatter is pretty minimal, not annoying in the slightest. To put it in perspective, my wife (who hates my car passion) never noticed it until I actually pointed it out. So that should say something.

As far as the Wavetrac, it is amazing. Simply amazing. To answer your question, yes. You can feel it the first time you turn out of a driveway, or get on a curved on-ramp. 100% recommend it for everyone, including Golf R's. I don't know how else to put it besides how much more planted the car feels. Everyone says that too, but the first time you feel it, you'll know what I mean. The Wavetrac is an amazing addition to the car. It even helps with launches, too. It's better than the electronic dif that the PP cars come with. If anyone reading this is even thinking about getting a Wavetrac... just get it. I can't recommend it enough. Can't wait to actually AutoX with it, let alone take it to the track!

Thanks for the info. I'm considering the Wavetrac since I'm going to have to do a clutch here shortly, figured might be good to do it while the transmission is already out. Your feedback is definitely helping me decide. Thanks for posting the awesome build and for all the feedback!

You're welcome, and thank you! If you're going to do it, doing it while the clutch is already out is definitely the best time and will save you a lot of labor, as opposed to doing the clutch and Wavetrac at different times! :)

More exicting things are on the way for the car! I got a little crazy this past week and decided to spend around $2k in parts... I blame the wife, she's been gone for like 2 weeks, and I think I've been coping by buying car parts!!

IE's CAI finally dropped so that was obviously one purchase, I got the full system, and it comes in tomorrow. Very excited. Also, a guy on FB was selling his $400+ Devil's Own meth kit for $200, and after seeing how much the heat affected my last dyno, how could I refuse! So that is coming in tomorrow (Monday) as well. Very excited. Also, I randomly decided I was tired of the crap speakers in the door, so I bought some Soumatrix Xtase speakers for each door, and those come in Tuesday. I will also be buying some Soundskins to further insulate the doors/hatch and decrease vibrations. Pretty excited.

And, last but certainly not least, I finally got myself a radar/laser detector. After lots of research, I decided to go with Escort's Flagship detector, the Escort Max 360. Let me tell you, this thing is a beast and very, very awesome. There is so much technology packed into it, but a couple of my favorites are the directional arrows (like the V1), and the Auto detection feature, which basically adjusts the detection sensitivity based off of your speed and the speed limit of the road you're on. This was the main reason I chose it over the Valentine 1. I've heard the V1 is a nightmare in the city, constantly beeping at you from all the K band and X band from things like garage openers, cars being unlocked, etc. This automatically filters all that out based on your GPS location and speed. Very, very cool. The V1 is also very involved when it comes to switching settings, whereas the 360 only requires the push of a few buttons. It also has a red light camera database and many more features that are amazing. Highly recommend.

Spent yesterday installing the power line through the ceiling trim and installing it into my interior fusebox, where I have wires everywhere now from, I guess this makes it 3 different projects drawing power. (Phone charger, PODI electronic boost gauge, and now radar detector)

Also installed some intercooler hoses/pipes that I bought from a friend. These were the last thing I needed to upgrade as far as charge pipes go, all the airways are officially upgraded (well, except CAI... tomorrow!)

Pics of detector:

It's yuuuuuuge:

Cool carrying case:

All done!

Lots of wires from all of my electrical projects:

Beautiful evening for doing car things:

Intercooler pipes installed:

Definitely the best time for pictures!

That is a gigantic radar detector! My escort just got stolen a few weeks back, along with my passenger window shattered all over my 1,500 mile GTI. Haven't decided on a replacement yet but was leaning towards V1 just from a cost standpoint. Let us know how that thing performs. Thanks!

Dude, that is NOT what I want to hear right now! lol I'm really sorry to hear that. Effing assholes, man. I do take mine down and put it in the little cubby, but the mount is still up with the little wire hanging down, and I still worry about someone breaking into the car just seeing that. I guess I can lock it in the glovebox?

Anyway, so far she performs really really well. It learns junk K band stuff (like ACC and blind spot mirrors, and speed signs) and automatically filters them out over time. Pretty neato!

Greetings, all! I installed my CAI last week, and she looks amazing. I haven't taken the time to update this thread, so figured I better do so. The Integrated Engineering CAI is beautiful. It makes the rest of my engine bay look like garbage. That being said, I need to clean it up a bit, and I think I'll be buying a black washer fluid cover and oil dipstick. Can't have the CAI look TOO out of place.

Anyway, I'm really liking the CAI. I'm going to be installing a meth kit as well soon, after which I plan to get back on the dyno. I'll do a run without the meth in an attempt to see if the CAI itself is giving me any gains! It has a "sound door" in the back that you can put in or leave removed. IE has specifically said that it does not affect IATs, which I find interesting. They've measured it actually taking in more air volume with it removed. So, since I do like a little sound, I left it off.

As far as sound, it's great! I can finally hear everything my turbo is doing. Every time it spools, I can finally hear it, along with the DV doing its thing. I like it a lot. The ride feels more responsive as well, but I'll let the dyno do the talking when I get there. Here are a couple of pics... I need to get a few in natural light, the camera flash really makes the CAI stand out and the rest of the engine bay look so dirty... which I mean, it is, but the flash makes it worse [emoji12]

The IE CAI comes with the coolant hose to re-route it under the CAI. It's purely for looks... can't have that nasty coolant hose ruining the aesthetics of this sexy piece ;) Also, I tucked the SAI under and secured it to a hole in the battery tray. As you can see, I also bought the secondary piece to complete the CAI, so that it goes all the way back to the turbo inlet.

Another nice thing to note is that this intake gets rid of that front piece that the stock intake, and some others, connect to, which draws air all the way from the left side of the engine, and blocks the airflow directly in front (unless you dremel it out). This intake bypasses that, and my Oettinger grille complements that by already having vents directly in front of the intake, as you can see in the 2nd picture. :)

All of the airways of my car, and everything in between, are officially upgraded!

How hard was it to route the power wire? Did you use a guide of any kind? I just ordered a detector and plan on mounting it in a similar fashion.

How are the Emmanuele Design springs? I have DCC and am considering them.

Not hard at all! You simply pull down on the trim a bit and gradually start stuffing it in, more or less. I had a hard time at first because it took me a while to realize that I was trying to stuff the wire into where the windshield actually meets the frame... I am dense sometimes. I do have a set of trim tools that have been immensely helpful for projects like this.

I have loved the ED springs. I don't have any comparisons for you as I haven't had anything else, I've heard they're similar to VWR springs. I know the ED springs are made specifically for the factory dampers. They aren't bouncy at all and I have never wished I wouldn't of had them, the comfort is still there which is important for my daily driver.

At some point, I'll likely upgrade to coils. But I'm pretty contempt with these for now, just need to get myself a sway bar.
