That's Imgur's compression for you! If you open the image in a new tab and zoom out a bit it's a bit better to see.

This one might be a bit clearer - just to the right of the steel cable there's a little channel:

And here's how it should be:

I believe this may have been related to what Golfdave mentioned regarding lubricating the cable.
Mine looks different, cable comes in straight from the side.

I don't think I'm going to bother worrying about this. All sorts of things, more important than this, are made of plastic and can possibly break.

Only takes a minute to prevent what would take hours and require literally destroying your grill to fix. Each to their own, though.

Okay I don't know what I'm looking at here and what to look for on my Golf-R.

Can someone post a smaller picture and zoomed out? It's like I'm looking at an ant's face zoomed all they way in and not sure what I'm looking at.

Look at the diagram in the OP.

Thanks guys, I understood it was #7, but need to find it on my actual car.

Uh.. it should be in that exact place as per the diagram..

Is it not? Perhaps a photo of your engine bay would be helpful so we can try and identify it for you.

Yeah I went to my garage just now to ck and mine is oriented differently and no place to zip tie it. I mean the thing is very securely mounted.

It clips on with two push clips - just pry it out from the chassis a little to wiggle a cable tie in.

So I take it the unit can be loose (off the metal brace) and won't affect unlatching the hood..? I've never had this issue on another car so just learning about it.

I pop the hood often to connect the battery tender after a drive so best I do the zip tie. I'll go back to the garage after supper and do it.

When I said pry it out, I didn't mean remove it from the metal bracket - just pry it enough to slide a cable tie through the gap; there's enough play in the clips to allow you to do that while keeping the clutch clipped against the bracket.
