My 2017 GTI suffered some damage to the front passenger side due to a pothole impact. I replaced the tire and the bent wheel, but they can’t get the car to align properly likely due to bent components on that corner. I have been advised to replace those components including the strut. Can I just replace that one strut without adversely effecting the performance and handling of the car or should I have the other side also replaced? The car has 60k miles on the original suspension.

You could but I would want the other one replaced with that many miles on it. Keep things equal. You would have one side firmer than the other.

I am sorry about your problem, but this is a no brainer, replace both!
