Potential Paint Issue Important to ALL MK7/7.5 OWNERS

I checked mine after seeing this thread, and have sorta the same thing, along with some missing paint. In my case, the liner looks just fine, but the inner part is pulled out on the passenger door.

While it's still under the 3/36, I'm just going to figure out a fix and touch it up. I think it would take longer to bring it in and pick it up--plus, I want to fix up both sides (and only one right now is problematic).

Not exactly sure the best way to handle it, but I'm thinking once the door is off there may be an obvious way to fix it. I'm pretty sure I'll figure out something.

Since there is some wiggle room and the liner can move forward about 1-2mm, I may just push it forward, stuff a rag in there to hold it that way temporarily, and run a thin bead of adhesive caulk along the inside lip of the fender. That may hold the liner from moving back toward the door.

Just looked @ my 18 r
3000 miles and it's doing the same thing..
I can see Primer on the edge of the door and the rub mark on the liner

Unless there is a fix (something to change)
I'm just going to figure it out

What have they done to fix your issue?
Besides the painting part?

I don't trust dealers to fix design flaw issues. The dealer approach is always "replace part". Well, the new part will do the same thing the old one did. It's clearly a design flaw where the part was intended to fit a certain way, and it just doesn't hold. I suspect the same thing will happen after the dealer replaces it. That's why I'm taking things into my own hands and figuring out a fix.

I’m confused. Where should the liner be? This is what my 2016 GTI looks like where the leading edge of the front door meets the fender. Same on each side. The black stuff is some sort of foam.

That’s what my 16 looks like, nothing rubs.

Bringing this back up as I just purchased my 3rd MK7 and I have this issue. However, mine is on a 2016 and it seems I may have the only 2016 in this thread with this issue. Like everyone else, no matter how I try to realign the rubber seal, it creeps out. Did anyone ever determine if this is purely cosmetic? if so, I'm yanking it. If not, did anyone figure out a fix aside from going to the dealer?
