If you had a Performance Pack what would you do with it? No one has said what. Unless you want to drive like a maniac around built-up areas where most of the sharp corners are, that is.

As for the folding mirrors, I have them and they're cute but in the GCC parking spaces are so generous you don't need to fold the mirrors in. I use the mirror fold-in as confirmation that I've remembered to lock the car before leaving it anywhere.

Parking spaces are generous, agreed. But that doesn't necessarily mean everyone knows how to park within those spaces. I've had one experience where the driver's side mirror had been properly damaged on my BMW after which I made it a point to fold them in every time. Had to order replacements from Germany through the local dealership which took about 2-3 weeks.

It's not an absolute must have, but given my experience I'd prefer having them for peace of mind.

Ditto!

Just got side swiped 3 weeks ago in a parking...if they really were generous I wouldn't have an idiot do this to me. ( see below)

Either way, the mirrors are good as they are not only aesthetically pleasing but a must for me at least.

Also according to VW dubai, it is not recommended to activate the Reverse Mirror Dip function via VCDS as it can ruin the control unit (costs a bomb to fix). So that has me chuffed as its a known fact that the EU market gets the mirror dip on both mirror packages (base like ours) and the folding mirror package. So not sure if its a load of bull or what..

Mukul this just sucks balls!! Sorry to hear about the side swipe... Re. The dipping. I don't understand how activating them ruins the control unit. Unless whoever connects the VAGcom system has no idea what he's doing it should be a quick fix. Or am I being ignorant?

I wonder the same but the Service Center Manager sent an email to someone technical at VW and they advised against it stating the problem of control unit failure (saw it myself). I think its a load of crap but I am afraid of risking it...wish I could have a definite answer though :/

Its funny how they always have an example of someone else who did it and their unit failed. If it is standard in Germany it should be here too (on the base mirror unit i mean).

If however it was not standard there I would accept it and move on.

There is someone on on the forum who activated their mirror dip function on their base golf somewhere in Europe. It was in one of the vcds threads.

Hi so I've gotten into contact with someone at VW who has been extremely helpful and this is what I got back from him regarding dipping mirrors.

Good morning XXXXXXX,

We have received information from VW AG which confirms our findings. There are 3 variations of control unit which are responsible for this function which have special production codes or PR codes to identify them,

6XE, 6XQ – function is available.

6XN- function is not available.

Unfortunately your vehicle has the control unit 6XN and the function cannot therefore be activated in any way.

Regards,

YYYYYYYYY

So there we have it. It sucks that you buy the full option model and then you have a few things missing.

Anyway I hope this clears things up for everyone re. Dipping mirrors.

One shouldn't need dipping mirrors unless one is leaving one's GTI parked outside - and that would never do...

Guys.. I just went to the showroom recently and didn't see a reverse camera too on the high end model. Any idea if the reverse camera has also been removed now?

I bought my GTI in Abu Dhabi. The dealer, Ali & Sons, told me the 'full option' Mk7 GTI sold in Dubai has a lower spec and price than the 'full option' sold in Abu Dhabi. That might explain what you saw.

That is weird, i have the so called "Full Option" with Leather and Reverse Camera. It has been a year since I got mine though.

As for the Abu Dhabi thing, it is spot on, i always notice differences in their cars. Its messed up as VW middle east specs the cars and not the dealers, so this confuses the hell out of me.

I had bought my car back in April, 2014 and got the delivery in the last week of July. During that time the only difference in the GTI's being sold in DXB and in AUH was that DXB didnt offer Navigation whereas AUH did.

My car also does not have the mirror dipping option and I was wondering how I could find out what the code of the control unit in my car is?

Mukul, it seems that from the new ones this year, they've removed the option from the high end model. But again, this is only going by what I saw recently without really asking any of the staff about it.

Anyone have an idea of how easy/hard it is to get a gti from abu dhabi and have it registered in dubai?

Hi GTi..FTW!,

its not too difficult at all. The only thing is that you would have to do all the registration related works by yourself. I had bought my car in Naboodah dxb and got it registered in AUH. Naboodah offers free registration along with the purchase of the new car but in my case as i was registering it by myself, they reimbursed the expense on completion of registration.

just asking, y would you want to buy from AUH? if its for the navigation - you could try asking naboodah itself. that's what i did. I got my car (full options - discovery pro nav, 8" screen and dynaudio sound system) from Naboodah itself. the only drawback was the 3 month wait for the car as it had to come from EU. furthermore, the price i got was slightly lesser that what AUH was asking for the full options. Then again this was in April - dunno the price now.

Ahh alright, that would make more sense but wouldn't really justify the price hike to AED 136,000. The previous full option was 132K (when i got mine). So if the camera has indeed been removed...that is just swindling customers...

Also on the website the "Full Option" Sport has the camera in the options(see below). I will never understand VW middle east / Al Nabooda and their speccing troubles.

Could I ask how much the extra options set you back? :p
