Just wanted to put this up here. I Always wanted to play around with Plasti Dip a bit and finally decided to go to Ace and get it.
I bought red and black. at first i wanted to make the Background Red and the Emblem Black, but I see a load of people doing black VW so I thought, i'll just invert that.
I decided to get them off the car, as I wanted to spray inside because it's like 47°C outside and on my Black GTI the surfaces felt like a Stove-top.
to get them off I followed these 2 Videos:

***a word of Caution, the climate here is extreme and the clips easily break off as the plastic loses it's elasticity over time.***
Preparing, First you use rubbing alcohol and clean out the Emblem and anything really you want to Dip. after cleaning I laid them out in the sun for about 5 minutes to make sure it was 100% dry.
The First Coat, it is recommended to spray in THIN THIN THIN layers. otherwise the Plastidip raises a texture which in the end looks poor. You don't need to spray the first coat in every angle, as you pick those up over the many coats you do, recommended is 4-5 coats, I did 7.
Spray a coat, then let it sit for 30 minutes, and spray another. repeating the process until you are happy. I'd recommend to keep spraying from more and more angles as you lay down the coats. make sure you don't spray from too far away or from too close
Too far = little raised sprinkles
Too close = runny uneven spots of glossy spots.
Inlays, I decided to make those matte as well to go along with the Raised emblem.
All done. at this point I felt like a king, as this looked amazing, I let it sit for about 14 hours (indoors) as the Emblem and inlays were still a bit tacky even after 4 hours. However after 12 hours of sitting, the Plastidip was still very "Grippy" like a rubber handle, which was quite annoying, because I know, it'll just rub off after a while.
After Some research, Turtle Wax Ice, was supposed to take that away and make it smooth as a babys bottom. And so I layed down some mist of Wax on that thing and rubbed away, what you see above is the result, smooth and absolutely not sticky. Awesome.
The Finished Front. I absolutely love it. some might call it Rudolph the red nosed reindeer now, but I don't care I think it looks awesome!
Finished Rear. I like the contrast between the rest of the boot and the emblem. also it looks different. which is nice.
Overall I'm very happy with the results. I have to admit however, that the Edges (inside the emblems) are a bit rough. Probably came from spraying at different angles from too far a distance.
I will not be spraying the GTI badge as of now, as it is FAR too hot outside for the Plastidip I feel, I don't want to spray onto a surface as hot as the sun. I don't know what the result will be so I'll be waiting until the weather cools down a bit, before I do that.
What do you guys think? any suggestions are welcome.
