Now I just need to decide whether an extra .5 inch of wheel width is worth an extra 2 pounds per wheel. 19 vs 21
Shouldn't be THAT much more per wheel if they are the same brand and model wheels.

I'd say no, it's not worth it. Unsprung weight is exactly what you want to shave off if you're goal is performance.

So I decided to go with a 18x8.5 wheel ET45 and have plans down the road to do VWR springs. I want to get some 245/35 tires. Would that work without rubbing? I've heard from a few people it'll be fine. Just want some more closure haha. I could always do 235/35. But I want a wider tire.

I appreciate the info! Was reading through all these posts and many suggest the 235 even on a 8 inch wide wheel offers many benefits. More contact patch and protection for the wheel being some. Opinions are all over the place on this. Making the decision tougher.

This is how 8x18 ET40 with 235/40 18 PS4s looks like.

I’d stick with 235/40 for ride quality sake, personally.

That's stretched, not flush imo.

I’d rather not read all the pages but can if I can’t get a nice answer. But would a 245/40/18 work and not rub? On wheels that are 18x8 et 45 probably running KW coils. Thank you all!

About 12mm more poke on the rim, and depending on the tire profile you could get some rubbing if you have the coils cranked down. It can be made to work, but a 235/40 tire would give you more wiggle room and could allow you to be lower.

Honestly I think 245 40 on an 18x8 will be a tad too much I highly doubt it would rub at all given the fact that I've seen people run 245 40 on an 18x8.5 with little no rubbing.

One thing however I would also recommend going with 235 40 18. 245 40 18 would PROBABLY hang over the rim.

Ok... I've been researching this for a while now. I'm assuming posting in this thread would be better than creating a new one.

Lots of information here is for 18" wheels, and mainly staying in the +40 to +45 offset range.

Well I'm looking specifically for bronze wheels, so my wheel options are already limited. Further so by being 5x112 and not 5x114 which seems more popular.

Just to ensure I'm on the right page - the stock specs for my '17 Sport 'Nogaro' wheels are 18x7.5 ET49. Tires are 225/40/18. Bolt pattern is 5x112. Weight is 24lbs.

The wheels I'm looking at are 19x8.5 ET35. Tires I'm a little flexible, I'll do a small amount of stretching if it's required but I'll stay away if I can, and keep a similar amount of sidewall if possible. So sizes like 235/40/19, 245/35/19, etc. I'll be at stock height/suspension for a long while - but eventually I'll put adjustable coilovers on it. I want to run flush, or flush-ish without rubbing. I'd go with a square setup + spacers before a staggered setup so I keep the benefit of rotating the tires.

Will this fit without rubbing? I'm happy to do the 'fender screw mod' if needed. Here's the willtheyfit.com

The other thing that gives me hope here is I can spec a BBS CI-R 19x8.5 ET32 on tirerack.com (it 'recommended' a 235/35/19). So an even lower offset... so I should be good?

Also if any of you know of good looking bronze wheels I'm still open for suggestions

EDIT: I'm still looking around but it looks like this thread has some info
https://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?7167514-Most-aggressive-offset-for-8-5in-wheel

Basically there's a guy running 19(assuming)x8.5 ET32 215/35/19

EDIT 2: Just to see for my self, I went and measured the front wheels (the most concerning due to poke). It looks like you have about 13-17mm (or .5-.7inches) before you start poking which seems consistent with the original post on this thread. Since willtheyfit is saying it'll add 26.7mm (or just over an inch), it looks like this setup will definitely poke. So not really sure how some people are saying they are getting it to work

Can I run a 17x8 +37 with 225/45/17 tires without rubbing or doing the fender screw mod?

I am thinking of starting with a 5mm spacer and stacking a 3mm on there if it won't rub.
