PDC Retrofit Question

So I contacted DokiAuto. They have both PLA 3.0 and 2.0 versions. He checked my VIN and told me my vehicle supports PLA 2.0, but he wasn't sure if it supports PLA 3.0.

1. What does PLA stand for? Just out of curiousity.
2. What are the differences? From my understanding - the PLA 2.0 supports parallel parking and PLA 3.0 supports also "normal" parking aka backing in and out in a "straight" line, and also can brake, etc.
3. How to know if my vehicle supports PLA 3.0?
4. Can I start with PLA 2.0 and upgrade in the future to PLA 3.0? Is it just a module difference?

Thanks everyone.
1. parklenkassistant, something in german
2.PLA 3.0 supports another parking method and has the emergency braking feature.
3. It needs the correct ABS module so the Emergency braking will work.
4. If the ABS module is compatible then it is just a module upgrade, At least from my knowledge

Hey,
this is the guy https://aiduauto.aliexpress.com/store/523203?spm=a2g0o.detail.100005.1.74066b77rjNwg8
Great store, ive ordered so much stuff from him and it is perfect.

Just so you know, When these retrofit sellers say OEM, It Is Actually OEM, dont worry about it.

Yes I got both PLA 2.0 and 3.0 modules from aidu auto. I did not see an issue so for.

In fact, i even got the front lane changing camera from the same vendor., which does the Dynamic Lane Assist on curvy roads and keeps the vehicle within the lanes at higher speeds. Now with this discussion, i am thinking if this will need to be the OEM or Aliexpress OEM part ;)

PLA = Park Assist (which does steering movements for doing parallel and perpendicular parking) + Park Aid (distance sensing and beeping)

PLA 2.0 = Supports parallel and perpendicular parking only.
PLA 3.0 = Supports PLA 2.0 + Cross Perpendicular '//' parking with Nose front. + Manuever Braking (auto braking during parking)

Will you guys be willing to assist in this retrofit to write a few words how to connect it?

Any tips on how to perform the cut for the sensors?

A Kit should come with a wiring diagram, Or you can check elsawin from a diagram.

There is a special tool to make the holes, I Got mine from a Skoda Dealership but you can buy it from Aliexpress, same tool. you need 18mm for regular holes and 27mm for PLA sensor.

Thanks for the reply.

Wiring diagrams are nice but I need to know where exactly to route the cables / place the modules, etc. Seems like there is no information ta all online, I'm surprised nobody created a tutorial for this retrofit.

Actually there is a ton of information about the install both here on this site, ross tech forum and on the internet. Especially the famous spanish guide by XaGiCo was a life saver. Also user reaper1 helped me a lot with the install. You just need to look around and search for it.

Anyways, since i collected a lot of information for this install, i am attaching them for your reference.

Thank you for the details, o_ravi.

After you helped me with the footwell lights coding, now you help me with PDC ;-).

Should I orde rfrom DOKIAUTO or AiduAuto?

Do you guys know if his kit comes with the bracket, or can you just slide the PDC module there?

Its upto you, you can just buy the module, complete kit or just the wiring harness.

When i purchased, i got the complete kit. Except that i had to buy some bumper adhesive and few screws for the buzzer and the retainer clamp for the module from the local dealership

I purchased the complete PLA 2.0 kit from AiduAuto. From the picture in AliExpress, it seems it only comes with parts but not retainers/screws for anything.

Can you post the part numbers for any retainers/screws neceessary?

I assume I'd need:
  • Screws for the buzzers
  • Retainer for the PDC module
  • Screws for the retainer for the PDC module

If you didnt have Park assist from factory then you wont have the bracket for the module, i bought it after i received the kit and it wasnt there.

With regards to the physical installation of the parking sensors:
1. How have people here made the holes in the bumper? Just used a drill? Is there a dedicated / special tool? What's the hole diameter?

2. What have people done with matching paint on the parking sensors? Just use touch-up spray paint? Or taken it to auto-body paint shop?
What's typical cost if you go that route? Do they look OEM?

As i said, there is a special tool to make the holes, 18mm for regular sensors and 27mm for Side PLA sensors.

I let my body shop paint it, came out great.

Thanks - sorry I missed your previous post about the tool as I was going through this thread.

When you say you had body shop "paint it", did you get the whole bumper cover painted? Or they just did the sensors before you installed them?

One other question: How does we determine if we have the right ABS module? I retrofitted Adaptive Cruise and put in a 3Q0 907 379 AB module, so I'm hoping/guessing I have the proper module (?).
