It was time to flush the brake fluid again (RBF 600), using my brother's Motive bleeder. When complete, I had a Check Engine Light. I took it to Advance Auto, they found the code to be P0450, indicating an issue with the evap control. These appear to be in no way related! I also bled the clutch hydraulics this time, which means I had to take out the air cleaner box. I wondered if I had pinched a hose? I re-removed the air box, there aren't any hoses under the air box. I made sure the "secondary air" was reconnected properly. There is another (rubber) hose, but I did not disconnect it. Since both of these hoses connect to the filtered side of the air box, any leak would be to... "atmospheric air"?? That is, they aren't under vacuum or pressure. (Slight vacuum, I know.)
Another thing: in October I took the car into a dealer for the suction jet pump recall. The error showed up a month and a half later, so... I don't know if that is related.
I checked the gas cap (3/4 tank of gas, so the code didn't happen immediately after a fill), and it looks OK. I found that the orange gasket for the gas cap is not too expensive; I might replace that. I asked 3 auto parts stores if they could test the gas cap, they could not. I took it to the local E-check station, but they said they can't test just the gas cap, they had to do the whole thing, and if my car was not due to be tested, they could not test it! (I just now checked, it appears that I can have it done 365 days in advance, so... I'll try a different check station.) If I find a bad cap seal, and correct that, I'd have to take it somewhere to reset the CEL...
I suppose I could take my car to the dealer, and ask them to check to see if there is some problem due to the suction jet pump service. If so, it's on them, but if not... They charge $168 labor to replace the spark plugs ($120 for the plugs, which I paid $47 for from Rock Auto), $131 labor for an oil change... what would they charge me in labor to diagnose a P0450 code? Geez... I'm hoping someone here has a good suggestion. I can't think of anything I did while flushing the brakes that might somehow cause a P0450 code.
