Any input is very much appreciated!

Car's lightly modified, IS38, bolt ons, etc... Today under normal driving conditions, I got CEL and EPC. Codes are for each cylinder misfiring, multiple/random cylinders misfiring, and cylinder disabling. These codes have been in there for a while but 2 of the misfires and cylinder disabling refreshed for today (see below). These codes have been in there for a while because the car will trigger misfires and limp mode when breaking traction sometimes. A quick restart of the car always fixes it until I induce it with breaking traction again.

The new code I got is P00AF Actuator Module for Turbocharger. I'm assuming this is what caused all the misfiring and disabling again. It's funny how this code is dated from a few days ago and I've been driving the car hard since then just fine, and only today the problems arose. That day, car popped EPC at idle, no misfiring, disabling, etc... Restarted, and everything was fine.

Am I just replacing the wastegate actuator? Turbo is warrantied with FCP but I'd hate to have to replace it.

So this P00 AF (appropriately named now that I look at it again) hasn't popped again. Must have randomly popped from the other issue going on (hopefully). The problem is definitely occurring less frequently now...

It used to be going into a misfire, cylinder disable, limp mode cycle in traffic driving slowly, low RPM, idling at stoplights, or hot restarts. Now, it seems to only do it on the occasional hot restart. My idle is also much lumpier than it was before this all started.

A whole liter of clean oil spilled in my spare tire well a couple weeks before I started having these problems. The vast majority seemed to have been absorbed by the spare tire liner (which was unfortunately thrown out). Could this have contaminated the fuel pump, fuel tank, evap system, whatever else there is back there?

Also, my stock muffler cracked entirely down the seam. Could this be from the oil leaking on it? Or running rich/lean from fuel pump problems? Or too much pressure (IS38 with baun 3.0" DP and midpipe going into the Golf 2.25" axleback)?

I have VCDS, I just barely know how to use it

Thanks for any insight.

Just had same code (actuator) this past week, twice. EPC/limp etc. No misfires though. Going to try and lube up the actuator arm/pivot to see if I can free it up. 2018 R.

I’m having this same issue on the stock is12 turbo and stock software. Same codes. The actuator arm moves by hand when the car is off but won’t return to the stock location.

Also had the same issues a few years ago, would pop up on cold start and go into limp mode. After a restart it cleared, for a few week it worked eventually it wouldn't clear and a new Turbo was needed.

Same here. Had an EPC light on cold start up. Restart cleared it and it hasn’t returned. Car still runs and drives fine but throwing all the same codes as OP. I messed with the arm and ran an adaptation but it never would finish. Just kept running. Not too sure what to do.

It was the muffler slowly clogging/dying (?). Blew out its seams and then the pipe going in entirely broke away from the muffler. Even with the pipe separated and the muffler on the car, the problem still occurred (I did kind of loosely put them together again). After taking the muffler off (and zip tying the loose pipe), the problem hasn't come up for a while now. And now it crackles/pops a little bit. So the car essentially fixed itself by deleting its muffler and then adding a crackle tune on top of that.

Does anyone have any insight as to why this happened? Sure road salt causes rust, but this was the muffler blowing up over time and not rust related. I've had weird air leaking/whistling noises for a couple years now that were definitely the muffler slowly dying.
