Like others have said, plastic and metal are different. Paint adheres to and reacts differently to each material. Depending on how the paint has been protected, it's very common to see a slight color variation between the two different sections. You can sometimes even see this on brand new cars.

Take a look under the trunk liner and under the bumper (just stick your head under there and look for anything obvious) for indications that the rear of the vehicle may have been repaired at some point. It will be pretty obvious if any major structural work has been done requiring a repaint or replacement bumper.

They actually use different paints on metal bodies and on flexible bumpers, as your bumper's paint has elastomers added to it so that it can absorb impacts without cracking. When you get deep paint colors like pearls and metallics those slight differences can become apparent as the paints age differently (the elastomers speed up oxidation and the propensity for surface micro-abraisions, altering the appearance of the paint's depth and richness). Solid tones can have aging issues as well, though they often aren't nearly as noticeable. If it's any consolation, some filthy rich dude who owns a pearl white Bently will be having similar problems to you.

I had mine up on the lift the other day and the paint on the rear bumper is crappy at best. Corners not covered, paint not even. This is on a 19.
