Open air intake, no heat shield

So I mentionned this in the intake discussion but I'd like to get more input.

I installed the AEM intake, it's an open intake.

I couldn't get the SAI to clip on correctly, so I removed the heat shield and rotated the SAI to where the heat shield would be and now it fits but I can't put in the heat shield anymore.

any thoughts on running this intake without the heat shield?

so far yesterday it was 32 degrees Celsius (90 F) and it worked fine.

p.s. the SAI goes underneath the intake tube/pipe, so being that the SAI is really stiff I couldn't clip it on, it always wants to unclip itself.

also notice on a couple pics on the installation guide the SAI is not there.

you'll be fine.

with the way you drive, i doubt there will be any negative effects on the vehicle performance from not having the shield.

A heat shield is useless anyway in modern transverse engines as the exhaust exits at the rear. They were originally intended to stop the heat from the manifold and downpipe/s when they were at the front of the engine years ago. They give zero performance gains anyway on their own just the noise makes it sound more powerful inside the cabin.

so far I am happy with the responses on here, I simply put in a gromet so the SAI tubing doesn't rub so much where the heat shield would sit

after drives from work to home and home to work it seems to be good

gonna keep an eye on it and tighten things up as it goes along for a week or so

and yes the induction & whoosh sounds are fun :)

I think during normal operation a heat shield doesn't do a whole lot, but once you're in traffic with the radiator fans blowing heat you'll notice a different in IAT's if you had a shield or not.

ok so avoid heavy traffic on the way home at the end of the day, that's easy lol
in the morning traffic is fine because it's cool out anyways
