1:40.22 where mid-lap I caught up to @tigeo on Shenandoah last weekend :ROFLMAO:

Still very happy overall with ~3.7 sec faster than prior best (big part due to the IS38 swap and getting rid of the 034 ball joints).

Really kind of want to do a 2-day event there so I can see if I can crack into the 1:37s with some fresh tires. The V730s now have like 12 days on them. Optimal per the Garmin was a 1:38.5 and I don't think my driving was exactly great.

This is what ~12 days on track with these things look like. It does help that VIR isn't particularly abusive to tires.

I'll take my 4 sec improvement at Shenandoah to a ~1:44 over last year. Garmin says a 1:41 is there.

You guys were flying. I have about 30 days of experience on Shenadoah and my personal best is 1:43 flat. Im suprised to see what similar setups are capable with the right driver. I have alot of work to do.

On Saturday I had some issues with my brakes and ended up going 4 off in the first session. It spooked me from pushing any harder for the rest of the day. I ended up with a 1:45.5 (or atleast thats what my shitty iphone data logging tells me, I really need to get a catalyst). I think I was on pace to atleast match my pb of 1:43 in the final session but got held up in some traffic on my best lap.

Great event this year. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Looking forward to next year already, but starting to worry about my car. I hit 100,000 miles on the way to the event on Sat.

What group were you in? My wagon is at 107K...what's the concern?

Thanks!

Better pads 100% helps with confidence. The DS3.12/1.11 combo I run is pricy but they last a long friggin time. The 2pc girodiscs are nice and certainly help take it from 95 to 100% (brake pedal feel just doesn't change ever, I assume because they run cooler), but are not necessary. Zimmerman blanks would definitely be more cost effective - IF these prove to last longer there's no way it'll be in the 3-4x longer range to offset costs.

I think I definitely want to spend some more time on Shenandoah next year (also really need to do the Main circuit, haven't done that one yet) - send me a PM if/when you plan on going. Depending on the organization and my personal schedule I'd gladly sit right seat and instruct or just hop in/let you ride along at some point if you want.

Also I think @tigeo would agree that the Garmin Catalyst is probably the single best thing to buy from the standpoint of trying to drop times. It's super useful because it's very fast and gives really solid feedback immediately when you get off track. The thing I like most is the stitched together "optimal lap" which (when I'm trying to be more serious about dropping time) I'll watch multiple times over prior to going out on track each session. It's really good to help ingrain that mental imagery so you can visualize hitting your marks etc to put a solid lap together.

Otherwise it would be very beneficial to buy a 10hz external GPS unit compatible with your phone + whatever app you use. It'll update the speeds and see the G forces a lot more accurately and provide more useful stuff to review.

Yes. It's a fantastic tool....real-time coaching, review session after, opportunities, etc. Easy to use and no real skill needed in data analysis or having to fumble with downloads etc.. I have Bluetooth helmet speakers rigged up so I hear the coaching in my helmet which really helps me out during the session. I used my Dragy before, it works and they have improved the app a bit, it has some similar features but just not nearly as good...also a fraction of the price.

First time with the MK7 on the shorter 1.3 mile layout at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX. Still multiple seconds left out there with no changes to the car.
Previously ran most of this course as part of their full 3.1 mile layout, but definitely like the flow that the short course has on it's own.
Also finally enjoying some cooler track weather down in TX with low 70s ambient and oil never getting above ~250f.

Track name: Motorsport Ranch 1.3 CCW
Track location: Cresson, TX
Lap time: 1:09.54
Year/model: 2018 Golf R
Estimated total vehicle weight with driver: 3,550 lbs
Estimated wheel horsepower: Stock (~270?)
Fuel: 93
Tire size and model: 255/40/17 Kumho V730, 17X9 Apex SM-10
Estimated ambient temperature: 70F
Notes on setup: Eibach FSB (soft), SuperPro RSB (stiff), Eurosport camber mounts, Macan Brembos, Hawk DTC-60 fronts, XP10 rears, RS3 brake ducts, stock everything else

That minivan in front of you was flying 😂

I don't know what turn it was but you made up a huge gap braking before that sharp left

Nice lap. This course is really fun. You're always doing something as there's aren't any really long straights.

My personal best was 1:12, but that was when it was 105°. But i don't think 35° will make that much difference, especially since i was hitting the same if not a little higher speed in the straight. I want to say i was around 102-104.

I'd figure just the difference in driver comfort alone would be worth a little time. Also guessing I'd be a good bit slower in the summer now that the car is stock intercooler and floating around ~45* over ambient for IATs at stock boost levels.

Yikes. 45 is crazy. I think mine is around 18 over ambient

45 when....during on-throttle/boost?
