Neither of the 17x8.5" ET43 or 18x8.5" ET43 wheels will be able to clear the larger 9668 APRacing kit. The 17x9" ET42 also has a clearance issue at the dropwell, making it a bit tighter than what we would typically recommend running. The 18x9" ET42 doesn't have the dropwell clearance issue but the caliper is still only 1.4mm away from the spoke, which is less than our 3mm recommended minimum clearance. With that said, the only way to safely clear that massive 9668 APRacing kit is by running the 18x9" ET42 with a 3mm spacer.

Hope this helps!

@APEXWheels pulling this old response from the SM10 thread... any difference in BBK clearance for the AP Racing 9668 calipers on the 17x9 VS-5RS?

(I know these fit the 17x9 Apex wheels per your SM10 fitment guide).

All on a 355mm rotor for reference.

Also I'm one of the people who had some minor fitment issues with the 17x9 ET42 wheels at the fuel filler on my GTI. I think it mostly comes down to manufacturing tolerances as I was able to loosen everything at the fuel filler up and shove inwards as much as possible, plus some slight adjustment of the felt wheel liner (punched a new hole in the liner to pull it tighter and away from the tire) took care of my issues. Stock height 19 GTI with -2.0 deg rear camber and zero toe for reference.

Details/pictures of my solutions were posted here:
https://golfmk7.com/forums/index.ph...-edition-hpde-shenanigans.401435/post-7825874

I also did the "fender screw mod" up front which was necessary when I had no camber plates... not 100% sure it would have been absolutely necessary now that I've got the 034 camber mounts (still stock shocks/springs). Just for reference in case anyone else is looking.

This was all on 245/40R17 Falken RT660s... which run VERY wide. No way would 255s fit out back. I do barely graze the rear shock boots but that's not a problem.

Hi there,

In the 17x9" ET42 spec, the VS-5RS design has slightly better brake clearance in comparison to the SM-10 design. To put this in perspective, the 17x9" ET42 SM-10 requires 3mm spacers to clear the MK8 Golf R factory brakes, while the 17x9" ET42 VS-5RS does not require any additional spacing to clear the factory MK8 R brakes.

That said, the VS-5RS should clear on the spoke side with the larger AP Racing 9668 kit using 355x32mm rotors. My only concern is the dropwell clearance on the VS-5RS with that kit. Technically it can clear but it is super tight if you are not running any spacers. Personally, I would run a 3mm just to be on the safe side to avoid any debris getting caught up and damaging the wheels/brakes.

Hope this helps!

After 2 days at VIR. Worked great. No rubbing or other issues. I use the Apex stud kit as well and no drama. These wheels have a really nice coating/finish - so easy to clean up after I got home. Rubber chunks and dust came off with no effort.

Got some meats to go with my bronze VS-5RS which are out for delivery today. Can't wait to see how they tie in with the red of the Golf R. <3

Pretty sure those are the Force. I nearly went with those, apparently they’re the outcome of Conti buying Hoosier. I may try them next.

Looking good! A set of red center caps would really make the wheels pop a lot more on that car.

Its hard to tell from the pictures but what Contis did you end up going with? I assume they are 255/40-17?

-Geirsen
Hadn't thought about red center caps; not a bad idea! These are the "ContiHoosier" as I like to call them, ExtremeContact Force in 255/40zr17.
