How did you read any of that post with anything approaching seriousness? To answer your second question, assuming you're serious, religion is nothing but opinion. "Belief" is another word for "assumption."

Ha ha ha, I didn't. And I did say I was just being an asshole, yes?

But to correct you, a particular belief in a religion is not an assumption. For example, the belief "thou shalt not steal", is a rule. How can that be an assumption or an opinion?

I'm pretty sure my pagan ancestors didn't do much research into Christianity beyond trying to avoid getting stabbed. My parents didn't encourage me to do any research beyond what they told me to believe.

This. My parents let me choose between Catholicism or Islam, but they didn't have any pamphlets laying around to help me decide.

"Faith" and "Blind conviction" means no research takes place.

I agree, much buy-in to a particular set of beliefs is parental driven, but anyone who does not make their own choice is in essence blind.

Now, that said, the blindness is not due to the religion, but due to the individuals lack of ownership of their own life.

If you weren't told about religion /your religion, odds are you wouldn't believe it. Santa Claus is a great comparison...

in order to follow a rule, you have to believe in it and/or the intended consequences of not following it, do you not? and if believing that scenario, you are under a belief or train of thought, (whatever you want to call it) and have made an assumption, that in doing so, you will go to an eternal afterworld - is that not the case?

so, you're saying when children are baptized as infant and later go to church when they are like 5, etc, they are doing a lot of "research" into what they are being told to believe, and are given a "choice", yes? cmon...

And yeah, I mean, a lot of people in the bible belt actually have read the bible, understand it, "research it" and have devised that it is all "true" and literal... wow man...
