OEM Wireless charger

Thanks for the suggestion (and for documenting your retrofit experience!). I did scan the 5F module and did not have any faults. Enabling Byte 15 Bit 0 seems to trigger a static fault (presumably because I am not connecting an amplifier), but I believe only Byte 15 Bit 5 is required. I did try it with Bit 0 enabled as well just to see, but no difference.

Update: confirmed the original wireless charging pad is defective. In unfortunate news, the 'new' one works but it is clearly an older, damaged used part that the seller in China sent me for whatever reason. Yet another delay

1. When a phone is placed inside the cubby a notification is received but there is no QI icon in the top of the display, is that a coding problem or and old charger?

2. Found what seems to be a new version of the wireless charger for sale, do you guys know if it will work on the mk7?

Its the same just with an A, 5CG980611A.
Also it has a small fan at the bottom, pretty advanced.

Gotcha... So it's an updated part number for the Chinese market part. Fan seems like a good idea. I wonder if it does more than 5W now .

Some of the AliExpress listings are calling it high powered charger. And it seems it no longer has the signal booster antenna. Not something I was using anyway so no loss there. For $35 bucks I'll give it a shot.

There is a 5NA980611A as well, but it doesn't appear to have the fan, and still has the signal booster. Also $300 so... not gonna happen.

It probably outputs more than 5W, the fan and metal enclosure surely aren't there just for looks right?
Anyway, I also Bought it, as you said for 35$ its worth the shot.

Count me in on giving it a shot. The heat generation and low wattage are pretty much the only dings. Not sure if it's just my older iPhone but it routinely gets warm enough that iOS disables charging altogether. For $35, why not.

It seems like there is a vent on the top. I wonder if the goal is to cool the device being charged to prevent overheating. Could also be an intake to cool the internals I suppose.

Thats perfect!, There is known problem in which your phone gets way too hot while both charging wirelessly and using Carplay/AA, so the phone just stops charging and you end up with a lower battery % and a flaming hot phone .

Finally i should be able to charge my phone and use wireless AA

Looking at this vent on the top, are we thinking there may be a need to cut a vent hole of some sort into the rubber mat that sits above it?

I would think so, otherwise at minimum there's no benefit, at worse we burn out that fan depending on which way the airflow is going.

I wonder what the efficacy of that vent would be given its positioning if it is indeed for cooling the device – is there much cooling if the vent is not under the centre of the device with the coils?
