For everyone with an 611A Ali pad, I have already an interesting experience update, if I may say so. Always when I have something new, I like to play with it. As I do with the charger pad.

I found out the following, when inserting the phone with the top side to the left in the cubby, and the phone is in its protection case, it charges perfectly. When I turned the phone around with the topside to the right, it doesn't charge, and I get an error message on the MIB screen. Now I have a galaxy fold, with a case that is not completely flat and a little bulky. So I took it off. And to my surprise, charging didn't work al all without the case. And from there I started thinking, maybe it just needs a little space between the pad and phone, for what reason ever. So I took what I had on hands, to make the distance between the charger pad and the phone a little larger. In this case, it was a few sheets off toilet paper 😅. But,,,, guess what, it works, I can insert my phone in any way, with or without case, and it charges!

So I recommend everyone with this charger pad to do some test, maybe at first with a piece of cardboard from 1 or 2 mm thick, and maybe based on the result look for a proper solution.

I think for real that the charger pad just need some distance to the device.

I would be very interested in your findings.

Very interesting! May pop mine out and play around with it as well. Appreciate the tip!

Another update.

Sorry for those not interested, but you are not forced to read all this.

This morning I cut a piece of cardboard, about 2 mm thickness and the dimensions of the flat part of the cubby, and put it underneath the rubber inlay. Just for test. I drove to work, and left with 90% battery, I had AA, google maps an Spotify running. After about 15 minutes driving I mentioned that the QI logo turned grey, and I thought there was possibly a problem, so I took the phone out of the Cubby, and to my surprise the battery was charged to 100%.

So, I'm pretty sure I found the problem that people have with this charger, but I'm really curious if it's definitely true. I'm especially interested in Iphones, since they have always difficulties with non Apple products for my opinion. (no offence)

It is not at all visible that there is a piece of cardboard underneath the rubber inlay. I'm thinking about to make a cut out where it lies on top of the charger pad itself, in some kind of S shape or something, so that there is some airflow from the ventilator underneath the rubber inlay, and still some support to keep the weight. Actually I'm beginning to think that this is the way how it was ment to work.

Hope to hear other experiences.

Well I admit I was skeptical, but... a rectangular piece of cardboard under the mat has put my success rate for charging placement at 100%. All the way to the back, all the way to the front, didn't make a difference; 5 out of 5 times I tried it charged correctly each time. Nice investigative work, @Meesters ! Also will likely try and cut out some sort of S or M shape to keep support while allowing as much surface area open as possible. Now just need to do a little careful cubby dremeling to see about getting my case to fit in there with it and we'll be all set!

I would like to file a grievance that all this information was not discovered before I committed to the 3P0... although there's almost zero change I wouldn't have ended up here anyway.
Well, I do live in a region where is phone reception a bit bad actually, and I clearly mentioned when the phone is in the cubby, reception is more worse. So if we get the 3P0 to work, I might consider to retrofit the external antenna you already figured out. The charger is on its way, I expect it in the next few days.

I did already modify the cardboard for test, can't say it is an S shape 😄

I didn't even realize the 611A did not have the external antenna port. I ordered a 611A and they sent me a 611, which I already had.

Also didn't quite nail it... clearly I should stick to technology and stay away from arts and crafts ;)

But you're right that with the mat down you really can't tell anything is under there:

(Need to smush the back left down a bit more; was sweating and getting eaten by mosquitos.)

Actually, I think you did pretty well there.

But my Idea is a little different about the airflow. As you can see from my "cardboard prototype cutout", cold wind blows between the charger and the rubber inlay, and then disappears at the back of the cubby. This cools it across the entire width, while with your method the air actually blows directly against the phone, in a place where the phone doesn't actually charge.

I do want to add, that I have no proof of what works best of course. So far I haven't driven for more than half an hour at a time with the phone on the wireless charger. But so far the phone doesn't seem to get any warmer than when it is charged with the cable in combination with AA.

Oh interesting; yeah my cut rectangle in the mat sends the air directly into the cubby/against the phone vs. circulating under the mat. No undoing that for me at this point, but agree your version looks good for a mat that still covers the vent.
