I'm sure after duties to Canada and the sales tax, it would be 5k to my doorstep. If I wasn't broke saving for a house I would consider it, but instead of dropping 5k on the bumper, that cash could be used elsewhere. Could cover the cost of a clubsport muffler, PPF on the NA bumper, and a coilover kit for starters.. hell, that's approaching the cost of a replacement motor at that point. Just not feasible.
Dude I feel you, I was actually in a very similar situation a few years ago with my A4 and although the out of pocket jump was a more palatable $1,500 or so I was a couple months away from buying my house which needed some renovations so I made the rational decision to let it go and just replace like for like

And like you said, apply that 5k to other mods and it goes a LOT farther

I'm going to assume this stamp at the post means the 52nd week of 2016 on this battery.
There's also a sticker underneath that notes July 2017.

Not sure what to go off of but either way, I'm realizing now this battery is probably at least 7 years old.
Looking around at what's available battery wise, I've seen Optima mentioned as a solid brand, but might just go with the house brand at Canadian tire for the core return discount.
May as well get a battery cover too.

New battery blanket for H6 Group 48 - 2Q0-915-418-G
Negative terminal cover - 5Q0-971-813
Positive terminal cover - 5Q0-971-813-A

Optima is not what it used to be, and they are kind of overpriced IMHO.

I'd go with whatever local place gives the best warranty.

Yeah I did some research last night, prices are steep for that brand. Just going to go with Costco or Canadian Tire brand.

It's crazy how much conflicting information there is on battery technology adaptation. The infamous 'Fleece vs. AGM-Binary' debate.
To reprogram the battery;
  1. Navigate to module 19 Gateway
  2. Adaptation
  3. Battery Adaptation
  4. Change the following;
    • New rated battery capacity in Amp Hours
    • Acronym for battery manufacturer. (First three letters or UNK for Unknown)
    • Battery serial number. Change this to literally anything that isn't what it is now. Some people use the current date, other just increase the existing number by 1.
    • Battery technology...
People can't decide on Fleece or AGM-Binary. Charles adapts to Binary with his Yellowtop Optima, StealthGTI programs to Binary in his video, then updated in the description to do fleece instead.

My conclusion is that if you buy a modern AGM battery that isn't 'performance' like an Optima (circular or rounded), you have to use FLEECE. I've put some excerpts below for this justification.

TLDR as per the post from @golfdave ..

According to various sources of information, including numerous car scans & threads on Ross-Tech, "Fleece" is for standard AGM batteries, the setting of "Binary - AGM" is apparently for specialist "Bipolar AGM" batteries!

Other various information from ross-tech and vagcom forums;
In Vag Can Pro, Binary AGM is listed as “Bipolar AGM”, which is definitely the incorrect type of battery. The car in the video is set to “Vlies” which is the German translation of fleece. Given all this info, I would set your battery to fleece. I’ve been running my AGM battery for 2 years set to fleece without any issues.
AGM Binary in the coding refers to something called bipolar batteries which is differently constructed to normal batteries like the EFB and AGM we get from the local factors/shops. Fleece was something along the lines of German translation to English meaning the AGM internal construction
It’s important to get this right as it will impact how the battery is charged. Binary AGM is referring to specialist Bipolar batteries which have a have a different charging regime.
Bosch official response to a customer who set their programming to Fleece;
S5A08 is an AGM type, all our AGM batteries can be charged to a maximum recommended voltage of 14.8V, as such we assume the ‘AGM program’ (REFERRING TO THE CUSTOMER'S PROGRAMMING TO FLEECE) would be suitable however if in any doubt you should check with the supplier of the charger. If the Audi coding has an AGM option (FLEECE) then yes this should be used as it will allow the battery management software to take advantage of the deep cycle capabilities.
Optima official response to a customer for the H6 Optima;
They confirmed The H6 Optima should be set to "Fleece as it is not Spiral cell".
The above from Optima indicates that AGM-Binary is for a Bipolar battery construction or 'spiral cell' should not be programmed as Fleece, which most AGM batteries aren't. The below was from a forum member on the Audi forums.
Certain optima or 'performance' batteries are Binary AGM which means AGM spiral wound (usually indicated by the round cells. OE replacements are Fleece aka AGM Flat.

This maint did not fix the idle-down noise. Will prob take this over to the local shop to see if they can find the source.
So I got a response from the shop. I've been trusting these guys with everything for years, so no argument from me when they provide me diagnosis.
Not sure why my OBD scanner is showing such different values compared to what they pulled. Looks like a timing chain replacement is rising up the to-do list quicker at 225,000km.

My numbers pulled from OBD11, which are way different. Maybe I needed to do a basic adaptation after replacing the camshaft sensor?
