Using the OBDeleven, I ran a scan on my 2016 GTI and got the error code B13C654, which it says is "Power sunroof control module No basic setting". I think it's the tilt function which is not working currently. The sunroof will go back and forth.

Is this something I can reset or do I have to take it to the dealer to fix?

Hi guys,

New member of this forum and first time owner of a VW, got a nice deal on a PAssat GT 190 TDI 4M, 2016 (in Sweden). Although I'm very satisfied with the car there are a few things that annoy me. I almost bought the VCDS but after spending almost an entire day reading up on OBD11, I finally ordered one yesterday.

Even though I've been reading up on the device there are a lot of questions that come to mind. I hope to find some (hopefully all) answers here from you guys. Unfortunatly the Passat communities are not as informative as the ones in the Golf communities, that's why I turn to you guys, hope that's ok! :D

1) Is there anything I need to be aware of before using it on my car? Does it work without issues on the 2016 Passat B8? Perhaps some security codes that doesnt work on this model yet? Any other advice?

2) I noticed joesid had this question earlier in this thread, is this doable? Couldn't find an answer to his question.

3) Is there any way of finding out what tweaks can or cannot be done because of hardware limitations? Ex activating the Lane Assist can only be done if the front cam is in place.

4) Is there like a library on all the tweaks that can be done? I've noticed a lot of different sites where people have tried to sum up all the tweaks. Also, can I asume that many of the tweaks that can be done on the Golf MKVII can be done on the Passat as well because they both are based on the MQB plattform? Of course I'm aware of the hardware differences on some tweaks, ex lights and so on.

5) Perhaps a bit off topic but I would really appreciate if anyone knows what the true torque limitation on the DQ 250. I've read that it is 350 nm, but that doesn't make any sense since my car has a torque of 400nm. I'm thinking of tuning the car but I'm not sure the DSG is up for it. According to the tuning company here in Sweden their stage 1 gives the car 480nm. Also if anyone has experience of the TCU Upgrade from APR for the 2.0 TDI I would really appreciate feedback!

That's all for now I guess! :D

Mastrovious: Hi and congratulations on your new purchase!

Question 1: Not sure which model mk7 you purchased, but OBD11 should be compatible with most of the control modules in the car. There will be some limitations though - security codes are always problematic albeit as time progresses the mk7 communities will become more informed about these illusive codes. At present, a limitation of OBD11 is that it won't access any adaptation channels in the Instrument control module (OBD11 calls this "Dash board") that require a security code. This only applies to MY16 & MY17 models (I believe). But this same limitation applies to other cables like VCDS and VCP. The other obvious limitation of OBD11 is that it requires a good internet connection at the place of use (VCDS and VCP don't have this restriction).

Another limitation of OBD11 is that it can't make "adaptation channel maps" (VCDS can do this). Why is this limitation important-I hear you ask? Well your new mk7 will likely contain upward of 4,000 adaptation channels, so the ability to make a fulsome record of all the "virgin" settings before you start changing stuff is very useful IMO!!

I'm not familiar with the B8, so I can't provide any information about this car!

Question 2: Which post do you mean?

Question 3: I'm not aware of any specific site that contains all the answers, but there's a few good sites that cover most aspects of the permissible tweaks for a mk7. Most of these sites refer to VCDS tweaks because this cable is the industry standard and because it's a more mature product. Most VCDS instructions are convertible to OBD11 speak, but there are differences - for example: VCDS uses a "flat" nomenclature for identifying adaptaion names and OBD11 uses a "Parent/Child" naming convention (which is much better IMO)

Perhaps a good way of starting your "learning journey" is to use my VCDS reference thread HERE. I've included links to other web sites that might be of interest!

The other good resource for OBD11 specific information is their "proboard" forum for the mk7 which you will find HERE

Question 4: See answer question 3!

Question 5: I don't know, but I'm sure that you already aware that changing the "response curve" in the ECU of any car can have its problems. My advice is to make sure that you choose a tuner who knows what they are doing and most importantly, make sure that whichever solution you implement has an easy way to restore the ECU back to its original values (in case the brown stuff and the fan collide)!

He has a passat GT B8 platform.. not an MK7, I wouldn't even know where to start with all those questions.

Here's the current coding for a B8 don't ask me any questions about them.. I just cut and pasted off the ObdEleven forum and it took me about 30 seconds.

ITGUY: My bad - because OP had posted in a mk7 forum, I read "I got a nice deal on a PAssat GT 190 TDI 4M, 2016 (in Sweden)" as meaning he/she had traded-in the Passat on a mk7!!

PS: I won't delete my response - hopefully some of my information will be pertinent to the B8 - given that they both are built on the MQB platform

1) I have a Passat, not a Golf but I turn to this forum anyway because there is so much great info here! Is there anyway to get the required security codes? I've read all of your post in this thread and I think you metioned something about a login finder in the obd11?!

2) Weird, thought I quoted him. Anyway, is it possible to program so that when S mode is selected and the engine is restarted, the dsg starts in S mode? For some reason (even though S mode is selected) every time the engine is restarted the dsg gets into D mode.

3/4/5) Great, thank you!

yeah I've found these on the obd11 proboard and other forums as well, just wanted to see if there is a "official libraray" for all tweaks.

I know I'm in the wrong forum but I've found this more informative... since the mk7 and mk8 (aka b8) are based on the mqb platform I figured some tweaks can be used on either car... Or have I missunderstood this completely?

You need good internet connection. McDonalds is free, you could always park an their car park connect and use their wi fi.;)

I tried this again a few days at my Parents house with better internet - 14Mbps plus.

Got the error check done but still countn't do any adaptations, still getting an everlasting loading data message - 30 mins waiting!
