Number plate LED help

Hi,

Iv got a 2014 Mk7 R.
I'm wanting to change the number plate lights to some crisp white LED lights. I have vcds and from what I can gather, I will need to code the car to avoid the error. Don't want any with built in resistors due to the potential heat issue.
Can I just purchase aftermarket white bulbs and code with vcds or do I need to buy the complete units?

All help is appreciated.

Can get them from DeautoLED and not worry about coding.

Any recommendations for the bulbs? Is there any advantage in changing the whole unit. I have no issue with coding them with vcds.

Not entirely sure as my 17 has LEDs, I just know if it gives a bulb out, you'll need CANBUS LEDs.

There are a few upgrade kits, deauto has one as linked earlier.
