Hi all

First time poster; full disclosure I am a self confessed Bimmer geek so don't hold that against me eh?

Photo of the car below for info!

Now this is the missus car. Bought it after I had a 63 plate GTD which I loved as a company car. All in good order apart from a niggle I need your advice with- as I am handy with the spanners I am confident to get into stuff myself but also not knowing VAG stuff AND forced induction stuff I would appreciate your views...

2015 GTD with 125k miles.

Issue happens when accelerating hard/giving it beans; car goes into limp mode and throws P0299 over/under boost error.

Also general driving I'd say the car is down on power especially boosting in 3rd and 4th. MPG seems low too.

Did the usual checked for leaks/obvious hose issues etc, nothing immediate. Took it to my local VAG specialist and his more detailed OBD showed nothing more so he looked for leaks too.

He suggested as nothing obvious to change the diverter valve which I have done, do difference (other than the error seems to happen more often than it did before??)

So I am starting to lean towards looking at the turbo actuator to see if thats slow/fouling? Are there any how to guides how to check this?

What else would you guys suggest I look at?

Anyone experienced similar?

Cheers!

Stuart

Clogged DPF, clogged injectors, all from cheap diesel & short runs...the list goes on..however with that high mileage (125,000miles) it should be ok...

.........the car will be logging intermittent faults VCDS will show these up...many with OBD11 devices don't know how to use them correctly...

Thanks Dave- I'll see if I can find someone with VCDS locally

I did buy a copy but I use INPA on an old laptop which is on vista, VCDS needs win7 or better

@golfdave have a look at these what do you see

I'm thinking get the glow plugs changed, change the MAP sensor and see if that makes a difference?

I have the usual basic service bits to do like oil and filters too...

I managed to get all the planned works done and promptly recreate the fault

anything on these readouts jump off the page as I don’t know what I’m looking at

You have two phots with the actual rage control of turbine giving a value of 55% ..or words to that effect...& the fault code is for range control...I reckon its the actuator thats sticking...& needs to be cycled throughout its full range..in my guide I explain how to use VCDS on my engien to do this...it may be different on yours....try it & see what the values are..

Just checking- this?

From the Main screen:-
Select Control Module [Select]
[01-Engine]
Advanced Functions screen:-
[Basic settings-04]
IDE04304: First adaptation of charge pressure actuator

Now leave this to run for about 30seconds, & it will not auto shut off, so you have to "stop" the "test" in VCDS.

It is advisable to log the following Advanced Measurement Values to display whilst running the basic setting:-
Loc. IDE03934 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for lower stop (you should get 3310 to 3510mV)
Loc. IDE03935 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for upper stop (you should get less than 331 to 351mV (<10% of above values))

When I carried out this procedure I logged;-
Loc. IDE03934 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for lower stop, values from 3400mV to 3429.6mV
Loc. IDE03935 Charge pressure actuator: adaptation for upper stop, values from 130mV to 160.4mV

Ive got a load of different options in those drop down boxes on VCDS... but no first adaptation of CPA

And nothing in logging for either adaptation values either

So what I bolded...is what you actually logged??....if thats so then the actuator is ok as its not having to apply more voltage to move it than it should.

You still have something odd with that fault code for the turbine..

EDIT you're just quoting my post.....

It might be under something else....like I say your ECU/engine is different to mine & without having the car infront of me etc...

OK I'll keep looking

Having not used the functions on VCDS on the right hand side can I cause much damage to settings and eco etc if I cock stuff up?
