Hi all,
I am picking up my 2015 R with 61K tomorrow. I’d like to lightly modify it and plan on doing APR stage 1.
Would like to get a bit of a deeper exhaust sound but do not want any popcorn/gun shot sounds. Just a nice sporty sound.
Will APR help with that on stock exhaust?

Any other mods I should do that won’t break the bank? Also, if there are any other tips you can offer, I’d appreciate it.

Thanks! 😎

If you don't have service records I would start on this list and catch up to the 60k mark. If you do have records fill in the blanks as needed. Brake fluid should be tested for water and isn't on that list. Neither is the rear differential or bevel box. https://www.shopdap.com/blog/post/service-schedule-for-mk7-golf-r-2015-2016-2.html

APR stage 1 is wonderful! I've had it on mine since 6k miles in 2018. I recently got their dongle to update it at home. You didn't mention if its manual or DSG so be aware that you will either need the TCU tune for the DSG or an upgraded clutch for the manual. Besides those mods you won't really gain much outside of tires, wheels, and some suspension bits. Unless you're into it for the induction/exhaust sounds or looks, then go have fun! If you're going to track the car then my advice probably doesn't hold up. Enjoy your new ride! They are great vehicles!

I plan on doing APR stage 1. I have the 6 speed automatic. Do I need something else before I do the flash tune?

I bought my tune when you could only get it through an APR dealer. I would contact APR directly with any questions. I don't want to unknowingly give you bad/outdated info. They may suggest spark plugs, battery chargers, or something else entirely. Since you have the DSG I would definitely recommend the tune. I've heard you can get a low torque tune that doesn't require the TCU tune but that didn't feel right to me. It would be another good topic to ask APR directly.

For me it would be MIB2 conversion first & might as well go 8" screen

If you want deeper sound you will need to change at least the muffler, but I would suggest a cat-back system so that you don't have some shop cutting and hacking up your oem system. Get a catback, save the OEM system for later - because I sure as hell wish I did. There is always someone wanting a stock system. I have the AWE track exhaust and IMO is the best sounding setup, and I have heard them all. I bought mine after hearing all the others. The only other one I would consider is the Milltek.

Full maintenance, fluids change.
Upgrade the brake pads.
Consider a rear sway bar upgrade.
Consider air intake upgrade and a turbo inlet elbow.

*I can think of a lot more, but those at least will make sure the car is healthy and serviced. The brakes and handling will be better, and the air intake/turbo inlet elbow obviously because you are getting the tune. Don't want to starve the car of air, so help it get air in with those 2 items. If you have never seen the oem turbo inlet elbow, you will get why I mention it when you see how much more open the aftermarket unit is. It flows a lot more air.

Good stuff, thank you! Can you send me a video your exhaust? Would love to hear it!
