Very nice to see a different colour, I suspect this looks very good in the flesh.
Congrats on buying an awesome vehicle, wishing you many happy miles in it.

Yep I request they remove stuff like that for me before I leave the lot. I also tell them to pull of their shitty paper tags and license plate rings.

I'm of the opinion that I will allow a license plate frame, to reward the dealer that chooses that frame--which is removable--and not a sticker.

The green looks great!

As a consumer i am happy to see the discounts, invariably resale value is going to take a hit as well. Wonder why dealer is offering this much of a discount as soon as a new MY vehicle hits the market, especially with the new warranty.

Up here, car sales kind of tank in the winter (it's -22F today, with a foot of snow on the ground, you can see why). Maybe they need business?

But damn, I love that color.

Once the dealers are flooded with 18s, discounts will be there as well, why rush to get into mk7.5. It's a slippery slope that VW took with the heavy discounts post diesel-gate and I don't see it stopping anytime soon. Maybe once they move production of Golf models to Deutschland.

Very nice!
I like the color.
Shame you've got to deal with salt right away, I know you'll be cringing.
Spring will be here soon enough.
Congratulations!

That’s where I got my GTI as well. Those fox valley tags are really really hard to get off! I went back there to have them remove them, and the paint needed correction afterwards. At least they asked if I wanted a front plate though.

Color looks good, surprisingly so.

Salt is a fact of life, and simple chemistry would have you understand that below a certain temperature rust won't form and isn't a risk.

My brand new Autobahn is covered with salt, and has been for two weeks. But at 5 deg F, I simply don't care. Temps will go up, and I will carefully wash it off. Problem solved.

Salt in and of itself is not a problem.

Really surprised honestly by all the kudos on the color. So thanks for that. As I said it’s not for everyone and a bit a of chameleon in different lighting.

If you haven't already, coat it with some kind of protection (wax, whatever) and wash or at least rinse it every time it's driven through salt, kinda a given with a new car. Then it should still be good as new when the fine weather (hopefully) arrives....

Agree with discount question aside from not dignifying a certain troll’s questioning what I got.

I was fully set on getting a 17 SE at $7000 off MSRP. I could get this all over in my local (Milwaukee) area. I started poking around at northern IL dealerships and found two that had significant discounts on 18s. Another dealer (Elgin VW) listed over $4000 in discounts. A bit misleading as it includes ALL possible discounts including two I did not qualify for. Still pretty significant discounts for a product not even formally released yet.

I assume dealerships know the market better than I do.

I went to Fox Valley yesterday intent on getting the 17 for $7K off or the 18 for about half that off. HAD to see the green in person and this is literally the the only one in the area. The combination of the standard driver aids and the better warranty pushed me to the 18. It was also a manual in the 18 vs the 17 DSG.

I’ll repeat what the sales manager told me. The 18s were not supposed to ship from the port until the end of this week at the earliest. AFAIK I can tell this is the only 18 GTI physically delivered to any dealer within 300 miles.

The manager said he also wanted to see the green and is now going to order more. For those in the area I found Fox Valley VW to be a great dealership. No b.s. Straight shooters. The manager said it was essential for me to see the car both inside and outside. He ‘gets it’.

So Fox Valley had the one 18 on its lot exactly two days. Now they have none. :)

Congrats on the new ride!

Hate to be the stick in the eye guy, but have a few nits. First, I like that VW is coming in different colors and that green is definately nice. But, IMHO, the red bits don't go with it so well. Looks Christmas tree-like in contrast. And still not all warm and fuzzy about the red stripe and chrome treatment around the headlights. Way too busy and borderline Honda-esque. Same goes for the trim around the fogs. Wheels are better than Austins, but shoulda been the Pretorias in 18". Won't even go into the whole S/SE/Autobahn equipment/trim availablity and the fact the Sport was a great all-around deal and they-go-and-drop-it ordeal.

Glad you got what you wanted and snagged a good deal to boot. Sorry to be a wet blanket on some minor stuff, but in the end it's still a GTI and thats what counts :).
