I loved my manuals but this car and dsg are perfect match, seamless, effortless and ferocious it's outstanding.

this is basically the exact statement i've been wanting to hear, and kind of sums up my suspicions. i'm in the united states, so i'll obviously have to wait a bit more, so i'm using all your europeans as my test drivers.

The first time I drove the golf r supervised it was fairly short journey with lots of traffic lights and start stops at roundabouts etc and driving in normal mode and was really pleased. Today had it for few hours alone and tried out Eco and race mode plus launch control. It lays down the power so well, all this despite roads being very wet and even with maximum attack launch control was amazing. I couldn't look at speedo claiming as concentrating so hard on what's ahead. The golf R did everything well, civilised and quiet when steady cruising but loud and fast when you want it. It's so well built it may not feel as fast as you would hope but it ain't no slow thing for sure, by god you will love dsg launch control it's brutal through first gears though and very more ish. I couldn't stop smiling :)

when 900 years old you reach, drive a manual, you will not!!

i love using my brain, and i always feel like i know exactly what i want the car to do, i just feel that as more and more electronic gizmos get inserted, it's a constantly getting tougher to make that exact thing happen.

is there such thing as a linear throttle tune? maybe that would be the best of both worlds. really i just feel like since the advent of drive-by-wire i've been falling out of love with rowing my own gears. i never felt like it was a chore or a hassle, now i get these moments where i feel i'm just talking to the car, going "really?! that's what you thought i meant?".

perhaps i'm just too much of a perfectionist, and feel like the dsg will do a more perfect job than me, now that the other tools have changed.

yes DM has a linear throttle tune for MKV's and MKVI's GTI:

LOL I haven't dared to use launch control yet....Today was going up a slip road and I used wide open throttle...I was half way and doing 120mph  brakes are good as I was back down to 70mph before the end of the slip road and merging with traffic...

What is the procedure for launch control again?

Launch control from stationary.

(1) turn traction control off. Where mode button is by dsg shifter it's bottom button showing car with skid marks......( light on dash shows car with skid marks in orange when disabled)

(2) put left foot on brake

(3) make sure dsg shifter is in sport ( pull back once when in drive and it will go from showing d1 in top right of LCD screen between rev and speedo counter and show s1.

(4) while left foot is still on brake use right foot and put hard down on accelerator ( it should rev no higher than 4000rpm if settings correct)

(5) soon as you like release left foot and enjoy the ride ( caution I'd only use on dead straight road with plenty of clear road ahead to begin with if not all time)

It really goes, ferocious....big smile

Personally soon as you get going when safe reengage traction control ( safety first on uk narrow roads)

To put back in drive just pull back once again on dsg shifter and it will take out of sport.

I should say when orange light on dash shows should be in rev counter if remember correct. It wouldn't hurt if you have passenger for them to reengage traction so you can concentrate on what's ahead.

I should also add this want my car, demonstrator
