[MQB_7.5R]

This is the build thread for my 2018 mk7.5 Golf R's. Follow my Instagram @MQB_7.5R for additional updates.

To get things started, I had a mk6 GTI as my first car. After learning how to drive stick, I started to modify the car. Four years later, the car was track ready with a Stratified ProTune. (Click Here for MK6 Build Thread) After feeling that I had reached the end of the GTI build, I started my search for a stock manual Golf R.

Here are some before and after pictures of the MK6 GTI.
Purchased: April 28, 2018 - 85,405 miles

Sold: July 26, 2022 - 99,216 miles

While searching for a stock Golf R, I stumbled upon an Oryx White manual 2018 Golf R in New Haven, Connecticut. I decided to make a 24-hour round trip to check the car out right before going back to college. The car was great and made the 12-hour drive home enjoyable.

After having my daily driver 2007 Honda Odyssey for over 4 years, water intrusion started to get the best of her. The main fuse box started creating electrical gremlins and I decided to start searching for a new daily driver. I stumbled upon a stock black 2018 Golf R (DSG) with 113k miles. The body is a little rough with rock chips, but nothing a little touch-up couldn't solve.

Clean GTI - what wheels did you have on that? Did you do all the shifter parts at the same time? Curious as to whether the metal bracket adds anything.

The wheels are OEM VW Rotary wheels. All the shifter stuff was installed at the same time. I had just a short throw on the GTI with the plastic cable bracket and I can tell the new one feels a lot more direct while shifting. I figured I might as well upgrade it while I had the shifter linkage removed.

Finally got around to hardwiring my Uniden R7 Radar Detector paired with a BlendMount mirror mount. I used a similar setup on my previous GTI and it was fantastic. Next up is to install a front and rear dash cam.

Do you have a more zoomed out pic of how the R7 looks with the blend mount? I'm getting ready to mount my R3 and might go that route

Did you hardwire the uniden all the way to the fuse tap? Or did you use wiring behind the mirror?

I hardwired the Uniden all the way to the fuse tap since it was easier than taking the mirror apart. I swapped the original rear view mirror a month ago with one from a mk7.5 GTI so I could have the HomeLink (garage door) function.
