Like the title says.

Would you go with Motul '8100 x-cess' or 'Specific 505 01 502 00'?

I would use the 5W40. Both oils meet VW502.

My goals: Avoid carbon, wear, and oil consumption.

I believe Motul Xcess meets VW 502 but am not entirely sure. I use Motul X-Max in my car and that definetly meets VW standards.

I use the 5w-40 X-cess, it’s great oil and it meets 502.00 standards.

I just recently had a similar debate.. was torn between OEM, Motul and Liqui Moly wound up going with the last option.

Have you tried Motul Sport 5w-40?

I'm sure it's a good oil (lots of group V) but it's not VW 502 approved and not available in 5W40 or 0W40.

Motul recommends the two oils in the Title of my post. I'm torn between the two. I suppose the X-MAX (0W40) is also an option...

Chances are your engine will not know any difference as long as it's a 502 approved oil. Certainly as consumers we have no means to know if one oil lubricates better than another by some minute amount.

My tuner (Ed @ EQT) recommended I use Motul Sport 5w40. He beats the hell out of his car, so if it's good enough for him it's good enough for me :)

For the record, I was using M1 Euro spec (VW Approved) oil, and we both feel it's not up to the task for an upgraded turbo. I haven't sent it off for free analysis, I'll probably do that shortly when I change to Motul.
