Hi I've got light misting of oil on Offside front and Coil spring corrosion on both rear coils.

I'm thinking of selling but not with these faults.

I'm just wondering if it's best to go through a main dealer or independent specialist.

Independent ..one who knows these cars...& for the age of your car & knowing our UK roads those advisories are to be expected...

Thank you - I've decided to have the full set of dampers and coil springs changed and keep the car a little longer as I have some long journeys coming up.

I hope they are changing all the damper top mounts & bearings..especially the fronts...

Hi Dave as I'm not a mechanic this extra work you've mentioned must be very important.

I take it that changing these extra items is not standard then?

Not everybody changes those items I have no idea what that garage is charging you for.....seems a bit high to me...what does the VW dealer charge/quote as sometimes they can be cheaper than you think..

Hi I didn't get a quote from my dealer as despite my efforts they never phoned me back.

Perhaps they're busy with customers getting their cars checked and fixed ready for the school holidays
