Keeping you posted...

Current 3Q0... AA gateway supports addresses
Center prop shaft doesn't need to be changed
Front transfer box doesn't seem to need a change
Drive shafts do need to be changed
Wiring seems easy...
Swapping haldex seems to be medium difficulty (Passat B8)
Need to think about breather pipes

Will first dry-test the control units before making a swap

Parts involved:
  • Diff
    • 1x 08E525010x (I took the Arteon version ending H, golf mk8 hatchback is F)
  • Drive shafts L + R for Passat (Golf uses different ones! 5WA501203 /A and 5WA501204 /A)
    • 1x 5NA501203A (left, remember, left is odd. for part numbers with L/R designations)
    • 1x 5NA501204A
    • 2x WHT005437A bolts
  • Bolts haldex to subframe
    • 3x N10720201
  • Bolts prop shaft to rubber disc
    • 3x WHT005179
  • Seal boot
    • 2x N90857202 (need to drill the floor to remove rear bolts)
  • Cover on Haldex bottom in orange
    • 1x 5H0825268
    • 3x N90737107
  • Wiring
    • Harmonica pipe
    • 2x 80A973711 T11
    • 1x 8D0973834 coupling original for CAN/+15
    • 1x 6N0973855 coupling extra power wires (2,5mm2)
    • 1x 6N0973755 coupling extra power wires (2,5mm2)

Some info about 0CQ (Haldex Gen 5) before it all starts...

Wiring for Gen 5, you can see the positive and negative are too thin for Gen 6. Gen 6 needs 2,5mm2

Unit is held to the rear subframe with three bolts, see image for torque specs.

For Passat, it's not necessary to drop the rear subframe. Only exhaust and drill holes to reach the rearward bolts via boot floor. Seal with bung.

Looks like it's on power train can bus. Question is whether the required data is available from the other modules/sensors on the car. I would honestly be surprised if they are not available. I can't think of any input this would need that isn't already available.

Common platform and iterative nature of the platform, particularly on the software side, means there's a lot of unused but possible functionality baked in. It really feels like the software is ahead of the hardware and most cases.

Finally! Thank you for taking the first steps on this project. If we could get retrofits of that rear dif into the mk7 gen easily understood/capable to be done by VAG shops, it would be a total game changer.

Curious how the end result compares to wavetrac rear. Imagine cost is going to be similar, at least for the next few years until secondhand parts become available for cheaper.

I paid about 600 euros for my used diff, I can't get a wavetrac for that.

Does the floor need to be drilled if the subframe is dropped on a Golf?

Are the control units included with the diff?

My concern is whether the usual haldex controller torque limitations apply. I would rather have a tuned haldex controller sending as much torque as it can to a helical LSD versus an eLSD that's capped at 155 lb-ft.
