Full in depth Mk8 GTi review

He says the 0-60 is a bit slower than the current gen. due to updated particle filters and emissions laws. How is that possible with more HP unless they added weight? 0-60 times vary a lot based on the reviewer but I'm assuming he got that number from VW.

The Euro MK7.5 GTI Performance like mine has had 245ps since 2017, same as the MK8. When they introduced GPF in 2019 most cars became slower even with the same power rating, RS3 with OPF is still rated at 400ps but is a lot slower IRL.

Ah I see, well that is a bummer.

I actually like the way it looks, but the touch controls everywhere on the interior are a no-go for me. It seems like they're appreciably more difficult to use and certain options/functions are buried in the touchscreen menus from what I've been seeing.

Considering all of that and that the initial word too is that the MK8 is no faster than the MK7.5, I don't think I'll have any FOMO with the release of this latest generation for now. I do wish it the best though, as I'd like the GTI to continue to live on.

Agree, the looks are growing on me, but I just don't see enough improvements to want to switch from my Mk7.

not a fan of the grill snout esp on light color cars but the red line over the lights and grill is sweet.

doesn't matter as I keep cars a long time (or hope to)

It is still over a year before the release of the MK8 in NA correct? If so with us being one model year behind the EU release, does that mean we will essentially get the year two model hopefully with slight revisions and bug fixes?

Yes and yes. I wonder how long it will take to roll out the fixes to the horrendous infotainment/HVAC/steering wheel controls? I'll bet they're already redesigning it, consumer pushback has already been loud.
