So it's Samsung, who owns Harman International, vs Panasonic, which owns Fender Car Audio. Both make good stuff, and both make horrible stuff.

Yeah, each audio manufacturer would have a wide range of products. One cannot expect a better product just because of the brand name in components like this.

So Harman/Kardon sound system instead of Fender. I guess the latter was shit.

Fender doesn't make ANYTHING in the current system - it's just a marketing agreement to put their name on it. That's it. Theoretically they collaborated in tuning it, but I'd be surprised if that even happened. The head units are made by a whole bunch of different manufacturers (Panasonic, Delphi, TechniSat, and others). The amp is made in China by ... I have no idea who. The "Fender" speakers have different part numbers than the base system speakers, so in theory they are an upgrade, but no idea who makes them, other than it ain't Fender.

H/K at least makes stuff, but that doesn't mean it will be any better. Our Kia Soul has the top audio option which is branded H/K. It sounds like hot garbage.

Based on the other cost cutting we've seen already on the Mk8, I'd be shocked if the H/K system is an improvement over the current Fender setup.

They could have kept the Dynaudio for NAR models like in the MK6. The Fender stereo is mediocre....not impressed at all.

Why wouldnt it be? its MQB, EA888, what did they change? I havent seen any articles mention exhaust changes.
I think the German cars have one Catalytic converter instead of two. This could be the reason why it may sound a bit different. Anybody know for sure?

It has a particulate filter for one thing, to get a half decent sound from it it’s had to be reworked.

I’ve just ordered a brand new BMW M135i X Drive (not yet built), and even though I’m a huge golf GTI fan, having as yet only watched the first part of this review I feel I’ve was right not to wait for the it to be released, (which the dealer tells me will be early summer 2021 for UK delivery) the golf interior looks so cheap compared to the BMW.
