Im all for the 10” dash screen. It makes the car buyable. Never had a 8” screen just 6.5, maybe the 8 is better, just another expensive mod haha
It's nicer, but still pretty much the same thing. I initially thought I wouldn't like the glassed in buttons, but they work just as well as the physical buttons. But I wouldn't spend any money to upgrade from the 6.5 to the 8 inch one, unless you just can't think of anywhere else to spend money. We can help if you need ideas...

First thing I'd do is move the GTI badge on the trunk. Looks terrible centered like that.

To much nostalgia for me to remove it. I'm a sucker for that stupid little badge.
Looks like the front one is still hard to remove without making it obvious. The side ones are a little nicer design than the Mk7 ones, so I might be more inclined to keep those. In other news, sure looks like there's lots of real estate for an FMIC, although I'll definitely have to continue to not run a front plate.

I think it's just a plastic illusion. I doubt there's any more room for the FMIC than the mk7.

I have experience now with 3 different recent screens - the 6.5" matte screen in the '16 R, upgraded from there to the 8" Discover Pro matte screen from Bill @ EuroZone, and now the newest 8" glossy screen w/capacitive "buttons" along the sides, with the volume/tuning knobs moved into the center of those "buttons".

For me, the sweet spot is the 8" matte screen with hard function buttons. It just does everything well, doesn't show fingerprints or dust, and the larger screen was a worthwhile upgrade from the original 6.5" screen. The newest glossy screen is just a mess. The capacitive buttons are a pain to use, the whole thing is constantly dirty-looking, and despite what some have said about the LCD panel being superior to the Discover Pro panel, I just don't see ANY difference other than it being glossy. I'm seriously considering backdating my '19 to the earlier 8" matte screen, I'm so frustrated with the current mess.

That's my take, others may feel differently. But at least it comes from direct experience with all 3.

Curious as to whether or not the U.S. will be lucky enough to get the MK8 GTI TCR. Everything I’ve read says that VW USA keeps pushing for us to get the GTI TCR due to the strong sales of the MK7. I’d love it if we got the TCR, and would probably get one instead of a Golf R. Doubt we get it though.

Its highly unlikely that we will see GTI TCR in US. VWoA even gives us stripped down version of vehicles when compared with Canadian market (say GTI Rabbit trim).

One good thing they have done in the recent past is offering MK8 GTI & R.

I'm sure it all comes down to who asked VW for less money to license their name for speakers

Fender audio was good, not the best.

One can never guess if VW is picking good options from Harman Kardon, have to wait until we hear it in person.
So it's Samsung, who owns Harman International, vs Panasonic, which owns Fender Car Audio. Both make good stuff, and both make horrible stuff.

In all reality, a $130 set of JL C1 650's and a decent amp will blow any system VW ends up with in the mk8 out of the water.

I view most of the stock special speaker systems as slightly better speakers than base model with mixer settings approved by the brand they feature. Fender doesn't make the speakers on our cars.

I wouldnt expect much out of the "Harman/Kardon" setup over the current Fender
