I wonder if the dude with the Honda Fit is going to stop by and ask about what the Mk8's reliability will be in five years.
The Honda Fit should be ok. Honda's 1.5 turbo engine and CVT would be the one's that make me nervous. People that think Honda is the shinning example of reliability haven't kept up.

Those Cupra brakes look nice. So who's got the part numbers? :D

OUCH!! Brutal piece at TTaC today...

https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2020/05/mk8-golf-deliveries-suspended-over-software-gremlins/

One gets the feeling that VW is in for a rude awakening. Honda found out the hard way that a wonky digital interface is incredibly bad for business. When it nixed volume knobs for touchable sliders a few years ago, the world cried bloody murder until Honda swapped back. However, Volkswagen is applying this theory to the Golf’s entire cabin — and it sounds like things haven’t worked out as intended. Features are reportedly having issues interfacing with each other, potentially rendering the car a total drag to live with if they’re not sorted quickly.

Again, this could have been avoided by taking all of those connectivity features the industry is so eager to implement and throwing them directly into the trash. But then they’d never be able to sell you in-app purchases and harvest your personal data, diluting long-term business plans. Frankly, we get the feeling VW prioritized this data-driven business model at the expense of its physical product. Software headaches are now fairly normal for the German manufacturer, yet it seems dead set on pushing the technology through as quickly as it can manage.

Could have seen this coming.

Yet when I've tried to point out this failure in the past, a few people completely lost it and told me I was out of my mind, that this stuff was absolutely great. Well, perhaps it is for them. They'll clearly be in the minority. Honda, Ford and others found out the hard way. VW customers won't be any different.

I find it hard to believe VW could be this stupid. They must have witnessed the Honda and Ford problems. Apparently German engineering isn't all that. It's simple common sense that to use sliders to adjust something as simple as the volume is a problem in a moving car. And the touch sensitive controls on the steering wheel will drive people crazy with accidental touches.

Keep in mind - Mk8 development probably started 5 years ago - about when Honda & Ford were bringing this stuff out. It may simply be that VW got to far into development to turn back by the time those customers revolted. They may have just said "ok, we'll just have to do it better." Good luck with that. So far it looks like they've failed spectacularly.

Could be. It seems like they just could have used the existing media center system when that's probably what will happen anyway. Don't they thoroughly test this stuff first?

Im all for the 10” dash screen. It makes the car buyable. Never had a 8” screen just 6.5, maybe the 8 is better, just another expensive mod haha

The 8"screen is very nice. I don't even like the what looks like they stuck a tablet on the Mk8. I prefer it built into the dash.

Ya i do think when i have more money I can switch to the 8”. I like how the 10” is higher up, easier to drive and have the ‘tablet’ in the lower vision. The normal spot for us really takes your eyes off the road imo. I guess i need to find someone local who has the 8” screen to make me want to buy one haha
