I don't want to talk to my car.
I really don't.
I hate voice activated controls, with the exception of calling out a song title to Alexa.
I can’t say it’s something I wish to have to do in order to control my car either! Although I’ve not seen or used a mk8 GTI yet I’m just not wanting one from what I’ve seen so far anyway, I’ve recently decided to set my sites on a nardo grey RS3 in probably 12 months time so less bothered by the mk8 than I was not so long ago.

Ha. Watch the video. He FINALLY finds that "one button" for direct access to the climate controls - which simply presents him with the confusing, anti-intuitive mismash of on-screen controls that then confuses him for a lot longer. It's possibly the worst-designed HVAC interface in the history of driving. VW will fix this, NFW this flies with the vast majority of Golf customers.

I did finally watch the video. The guy had no clue as how to use the infotainment system. It's true that these systems require some study and knowledge. He did not do his homework.

A hvac system that requires study is a small problem....reinventing a system that has been standardized for over 50 years in which you could adjust blindfolded; where, how much, and at what temperature you want the air flow to something you have to look at when using is a bigger problem. Yes I know once you know it you should be able to adjust it quickly but lack of and feedback other than visual is key. Even haptic systems are no match to the established norm.

old guy but not a tech hater. I fix robots/machinery for my job and use touchscreens everyday. I understand the flexibility to Mfrs but they have a weakness in you need pay attention to them when using them. When you are responsible for 3000#'s of machinery moving at 70 MPH in a non-controlled environment distractions can be serious. I don't think they are as bad as texting while driving but the potential real world downside is more than the benefit.

Moot point for me as I have no interest/intent in replacing my 2017

New cars have never been plug and play. Spend 20-30 minutes with an owners manual or with your sales associate. The guy in the video obviously did neither.

Apparently Racingline has a MK8 Golf R they're working on. I think some important people in bed with VW Germany have early access but unfortunately nothing can be shared due to NDA's.

From the my understanding the GTI will release in 2021 as stated above and the R will be available the following year :(

Just make summer tires standard like the EU markets.

VW will have an overall lower EPA MPG rating with standard summer tires and i highly doubt if that will happen.

From the above article: 19-inch wheels are available for the first time ever in the U.S. They can even be had wrapped in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber.

I think if you made it mandatory that we had winter tires six months out of the year, then you could sell it with summers. Until then, people buying a fwd, economical car are better off with all seasons from the factory. Now should they offer an all season that doesn't suck? Yep, absolutely.

Those are optional wheels. These are almost certainly what we'll get. They should be named Abiline.

We never know until there is an official release.

2018s had Austins on S trim and Dallas on higher trims. There are chances that the good looking 19" wheels might be a standard option on top trims.

Has VW USA ever done us any favors?
