No dice - it was already set to "active".

It seems to me like there's a linkage from the emblem to the release mechanism that isn't working.
There's no physical linkage, if that's what you mean. It's all electrical... Keeping in mind the emblem flips open for rear view camera.

I thought it was a solenoid popper type system? You pressing forward on the top part of the emblem activates the electronics to open, or hitting the hatch button on the fob.

Hi all, hope this is a good place to ask this dumb question. I just upgraded from my 2011 GTI with 200k miles to a 2017 Golf R! I freaking love the car so far, but this soundaktor thing with the fake sound is driving me nuts. I've searched forums/youtube for the solutions and none of them seemed to work for whatever reason. Maybe the sound I'm hearing isn't actually the soundaktor, but I swear it's still making noise. I've tried physically unplugging it based on a YouTube guide. And I also used VCDS to reduce the volume to 0%.

Am I crazy? Am I missing something? Or is it possible this thing is still making noise after these changes? Am I hearing something else that's not the soundaktor thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking I might try to physically remove the module if I can't find a solution.

It's 100% not the module if you're still hearing something. How many miles? I don't have an R, but I'd be looking at motor mounts and/or prop shaft bushings. Or maybe you have an exhaust leak?

Hmmm, I would find that hard to believe just based on the cars condition. The car only has 19k miles on it and the previous owner babied the thing. The noise only happens when I get on the throttle. So if I'm driving normally, it doesn't make any noise. Is the module near the firewall/windshield the only soundaktor piece? The previous owner said he tried to disable it also, but thought it was still on too.

I believe it's under the wiper cowl.

Very stupid question. Are there part #'s for the front and rear mk7.5 VW emblems? The front one that clips in front of the ACC/ drive assist radar unit, and the rear emblem that clips onto the backup camera. Trying to get them as cheap as possible so hoping a part# will help find them on e-acca.

@MonkeyMD Thank you for the Reflection Tuning recommendation. I got a 09G TCU swap and ECU tune for my VW Golf 1.8T hatch with IS38, downpipe turboback, intercooler and other bolt-ons. Ian did a fantastic job and my car is incredible now. No codes, smooth shifts, handles more power and pulls like a beast. Thank you Ian!

@B1GK0R The module has a larger connector, 6 wires (four are input from the car, 2 are the +/- out to the soundaktor speaker). The speaker has a small 2 wire connector (+/-).

If either is these is disconnected there is no possibility you're still hearing the soundaktor. The module only outputs to that speaker. And that speaker has no other means of input.

This is how to add the soundaktor (exactly what you don't want) but describes the entirety of the system... https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/cuzoes-2015-golf-tdi-s-journal.373961/post-7991094

It must be a different sound I'm hearing then because I had both of those unplugged at one point and it didn't seem to make any difference.

Thanks for the info. I'll keep experimenting and see if I can get something to work. Or maybe I'm just going crazy and hearing things.

Is the car stock hardware wise? i.e. no intake or downpipe or anything? Some of the janky intakes/inlet pipes can hit the brake booster and cause noise.

Yeah, I was just thinking that a poorly installed DP could cause that symptom...
