So golfmk6 had a "Random / "Stupid" Questions Thread", can we start one up here? (unless there is one and i just missed it)

The goal of this thread is to allow people to ask random questions (related to mk7 stuff) and to ask "stupid" questions without getting flammed (such as "this is my first GTI, does it have a turbo?").

It's a great place for teh n00bz, experienced folks and enthusiasts.

The mk6 one was pretty good because we had a few people that were always active in the thread and very helpful. I think this thread would be valuable once it gets up and running. It'll help de-clutter other subforums too.

This seems to qualify as a stupid question, (2016 mk7 gti dsg)
I unlock the car, pop the hood to check oil level and I hear some sort of noise coming from I don’t know where. The key is not in the ignition but what the heck is that? Some kind of security thing? Same thing on a friends Jetta. Something to do with the turbo?

IIRC the car is fairly eager to prime the fuel pump to build pressure. So that might be what you're hearing. I believe that's tied to opening the driver's side door.

I believe there's also an auxiliary water pump that is intended to keep coolant moving after the car has been shut off, just for a bit. Not certain about that one though.

Probably this.

You should stick around after it's warmed up to temp and listen to it for a while. Mine sounds like a 1996 modem connecting to AOL.

I’m used to the fuel pump priming after the key is in the first position prior to starting. I guess that’s old school fuel injection. Still seems odd though, why prime the system when it may not be started? Hey, I’m an old guy that’s used to carburetors, what can I say

Yeah, it primes as soon as you open the driver's side door on these.
I will check that out
Yeah, I forgot a bit in there. After the car is up to temp and you shut it off. There are all kinds of noises under the hood, I think mostly pushing coolant around to help cool like @Nineeightyone mentioned.

Turns out, with the newest update, they either re-labeled some data logging monitors differently or changed some of their parameters so you have to re-select the new monitors

Hey all, does anyone have a video or walk through for removing the grille on a 7.5? The ShopDAP video is not very helpful for the lower clips and I don’t wanna break anything.

The upper grill?

After you remove the t25 screws at the top and put Tape on your bumper to prevent scratches you just pull the grill straight off/away - but keep to horizontal and level to how it’s sitting now. It’s like many other tensioned parts and does indeed feel like you’re going to break it.

What are you doing that requires removing it?

Connected with the PO on my car. Can anyone explain what these things are

Stage 1 Tcu & Stage 1 Ecu - Currently programmed to run at low torque setting

Audi S7 sparks

IE intake

IE turbo inlet

Used VAG TOOL ?
To sync lights ? they flash in a pattern and when yo apply a certain brake pressure flash like a F1 car on recharge

& programmed the mode selector to jump between normal & race mode at flick of a button as opposed to the normal series of steps.
When you do this all driver aids are off.

Appreciate the help, I’ll probably try this weekend when my roommate can supervise/help.

I got this lightbar that looks kinda like the MK8’s light bar. https://xxiituning.com/products/volkswagen-golf-mk7-5-oem-led-front-grille-lights

Oh I did one of those a while back they are very cool looking. (before it was like a mk8 and just a driving lights light bar lol), while it did remove mine to install and drill the holes if I recall I think you “could” do it all with it in place and some fishing work. I wrapped them with 2 layers of black tint to hide them when they where off and it helped diffuse these leds to match the headlights.

They also sell lighted logos now too for the full effect

I listened and it does sound like it could be a fuel pump prime but it cycles on and off several times. That doesn’t seem right to me

This is obviously a tune, but PO did not say by who. TCU is the transmission control unit, typically a TCU tune is desirable when running higher horsepower so that the transmission can properly shift in accordance with the higher power the engine is making. There is a lot more science behind that with what it all does, but I am too lazy to type all of that out. ECU is the engine control itself, remapping for higher output but changing fuel curve, timing, ignition, etc.

Audi S7 sparks -
sparkplugs that are OEM for that model Audi.

IE intake -
This would be an air intake assembly from Integrated Engineering. A fairly big vendor in the VW MQB platform.

IE turbo inlet -
turbo inlet is the elbow pipe right before the turbo. Another Integrated Engineering part. The OEM unit is very restrictive, because at the bend area it constricts down a lot. Aftermarket ones retain the diameter as it makes the bend in the elbow, thus flowing more air.

Used VAG TOOL ?
VAG is Volkswagen Audi Group
