This'll only be the second Amazon Basics part on my car, but I have a feeling of the direction this is heading...

My front passenger door lock has developed a dying sound as you start driving (when it automatically locks).....instead of a sharp "click" as it locks, it has a slowish chirping sound. It still locks, but the sound is "not right". Anyone know what that is a symptom of or if I really need to spend time thinking about it?

What's the deal with parasitic loss and A/C on and off as it relates to defrost? Is defrost any worse than just having the A/C on? It's that time of year where I usually just put it on defrost windshield and feet to keep the windshield from fogging up. In my head, defrost is just a vent/flap setting that pushes the air up there more, but I was curious on the commute this morning haha.

I think having the A/C on means it's "conditioned " as in guaranteed dry air hitting the windshield which will remove windshield condensation with it. You don't always need A/C on though - if it's cold enough the humidity will be very low anyways and the heat will do the trick then (or for exterior frost)

That's my understanding at least, if someone knows better please elaborate

If your a/c light is on, your compressor is running, which has parasitic loss. Pretty sure the defrost setting turns that on by default.
Yeah, this is what I was thinking as well. No matter what, the compressor is running.

Only caveat is that Defrost + Feet does not seem to turn on A/C by default, but just Defrost does.

Since I'm in Georgia and park in a garage overnight and a parking garage at work, I don't really see exterior frosts/ice. It's usually interior fog that becomes the issue this time of year.

A/C removes moisture from the air (which makes it feel cooler, as a side effect). A/C on when you want the windows to not be foggy, doesn't have much to do with the temperature of the air leaving the vents.

The only thing I'd add is that breathing creates a lot of moisture in the air. If you have passengers you'll likely need to run the A/C when you normally wouldn't need it.

Does anyone know if a Quickjack 7000TLX works for a Golf R? Or is the frame too long? Trying to stick with a larger frame to handle the Q7 we’re looking at for next year.

Might be your door lock mechanism is starting to go out.
