I mean…

Decklid

So that still confusing as it’s like your asking to drill through your “hatch door”

Or maybe you’re talking about the cargo privacy cover thing? That’s like a package tray / parcel shelf but not a package tray since we have hatch backs 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hahahahaha that’s exactly what I get for not knowing the technical term. You’re right. I’m referring to the shelf that lifts when you open the hatch door.

If the cargo cover, some heavy duty velcro might work. Not sure what you're trying to mount though

12 lbs or so

so my horn died. it started to get weak (only one horn working) then both would start working again. now it's completely dead. it doesn't do anything when I press the steering wheel horn and the car does not beep when I lock the car. I visually inspected the horns by removing the fender lining on both sides when I was doing a tire rotation and saw nothing out of the ordinary. car is only 3 years old. what could the problem be?? I checked the fuse and it's good. the funny thing is, my mk6 did the same thing, but it "fixed itself" eventually. no water damage or anything recently to speak of, but there was a shit load of pebbles stuck inside my front bumper lip on both sides. why do those holes in front of the wheels exist? It seems like a lot of road shit kicks up into the bumper there. I kind of want to put a piece of stainless mesh there to prevent this. my car is under warranty but curious if anyone been through this same problem. really dreading bringing my car into the dealership because of my trust issues lol

Alternative... swap out for Supertones.
I just looked at a YouTube video I'm not crazy about the way they mount or the wiring setup honestly. if it was more plug and play I would consider. my osram headlight wiring setup already bothers me enough, not that it looks bad, just not oem. I'm just ocd about this car being OEM+.

I'd like to setup Torque Pro or some other android app to display and log data. I have an OBDeleven and OBDLink MX+. Is there a list of PIDs somewhere? I haven't had luck with the right search terms unfortunately. Even better if you might know about a guide that uses one of these adapters to accomplish this with a Mk7 Golf R specifically.

12 lbs or so
(Sorry to double post, just saw this reviewing the thread)

Personally, I'd be worried about 12 pounds hanging from something that is basically cardboard. If you reinforced it on the top with a plate to disperse the load across a larger area you'd probably be ok. Is it a subwoofer? I'm imagining a load hanging well below the mounting surface and causing even more torque around the thin frame of the speaker under breaking and acceleration over time. But I don't know anything and am armchair engineering over here LOL.

Might be closer to 8lbs, but no, no speaker. Looking for a storage solution to carry items for when I drive out to the range.

Gotcha! I have my vault next to the sub woofer. It's not as convenient but a bit more hidden.

Returning the OBDLink MX+ and getting that AO dongle. Thanks for the tip!
