Looking for some tire advice.

The 8R came with some fairly new summers on it, Bridgestone Potenza S005. I have to do something, since I can't use summers during the winter here. This spring, I probably will get new wheels, just because. Since I had 3 other MQBs with 4 different sets of Neuspeeds, looking at something different. Thinking of the Titan7s T-R10s, which look identical to the RSe102's 🤣

Anyway. Tires. Since I actually don't mind the black Estoril's that came on the car, for the first time I'm considering a summer/winter set. So here's my opinions I'm looking at:

1) Buying a set of mid-range all-seasons, probably the General GMax AS-07. $563 or so after rebate. Having those mounted on the Estoril's, then come spring, have the S005 summers mounted on whatever new wheels I get. Then have a winter/summer set.

2) Buying a set of really good all-seasons, probably would try the PSAS4's this time over the DWS06+. $1075 or so. Have them mounted on the Estoril's, then in spring have them moved over to whatever wheels I buy, and just do what I've always done, and rock one set all year long

I guess the questions are really are the S005s good enough tires to keep and use during the summer? Or would a high end set of all seasons out perform them? And would a mid-range set of all-seasons be good enough for a New England winter? They've been getting milder and milder...

Thoughts?
DWS06+ or PSAS4s for cold weather

ECS02s have been fantastic for wet/summer performance, not quite as much grip as the RT660s with some heat in them BUT I've been a big fan so far and will probably continue to run them for a while. Remember, you shouldn't cheap out on the stuff that goes between you and the ground. Shoes, mattress, tires.

I mean, General's aren't bad tires. It's not like they're $60 Walmart LingLongs. If I spend $1k on all seasons, I'm getting my money's worth and using them in all the seasons.

TBF I used the DWS06+ in all the seasons and like them... but if you're gonna have two sets of wheels/tires, either Blizzaks and all seasons or ECS02s (or better) and all seasons seems like the sensible answer here

I’m a PS4S late spring to late fall and AS the rest of the time guy.

If it’s shitty out I just take the wife’s car - b/c snow tires or not, they don’t clear shit here and our cars lack the ground clearance to make a difference.

That's what I've done. Used DWS06+ year round for a few years. And I'm fine with that. Thought about the PSAS4s just to try something different. It's just that I have a set of stock wheels I don't mind, and a set of barely used summers, that caused me to think about doing a winter\summer set.

Sticking with 19s. The Titan7s are pretty close to what I had on my last Neuspeeds, 19x8.5/44. So they'll sit a little more flush than the stock 19x8/50 wheels.

Actually, scratch that. I just noticed the Titan7 wheels I was looking at are $3k for the set 🫨

I thought they were closer to $2k...

They recently went up. I think last time I look at them a few months back they were in the low-mid $2k. There are quite a few hits on google that still show their old pricing. Don't know if it is the same model you were looking for.

My Ray's are 18x8.5 ET44 and they are flush with 235's. I tried 245's briefly and had to take them back because they rubbed in the rear. The front's did clear, but I have wide fenders up there.

Engine question.....this is incredibly stupid, but I've never swapped engines before.

as long as the engine code is correct, being DSG or manual doesn't matter or does the short block have to be specific to a "DSG" or "manual"?

I can't imagine the engine cares, generally the ECU is the end that cares/looks for a TCU. Engine should be fine.

Yeah, sounded dumb as I typed it, but with this big of chunk of change, I’m going to ask every question I can lol

Absolutely makes sense, I don't think it hurts to ask. I've asked a ton of dumber questions, better to be sure than to guess.
