Is there a documented difference in sound for the Clubsport S vs. Clubsport muffler options on the MK7? Did a bit of digging but all I can gather is the 'S' diameter matches the stock GTI pipe and the other one is smaller. Is there a noticeable difference in sound?

Edit: I've suddenly decided to not care. Found this video of stock over 'S' and nothing matters anymore. Gunna do it.

I was trying to get an ECU Upgrade from APR. The VW dealer said something is locking out the update. In the forums, someone suggested I could get this info from SimOS tools, and might find a filename that indicates whose coding was installed.

I ran the app, and I included the output below. I don't understand much about what I'm seeing, aside from the VIN, VW Spare Part Number, and the Hardware Number & version (from just googling the numbers). What can I determine about the ECU's current state? What would show the ECU is locking out any updates? Is there an explanation of what these other entries mean somewhere online? Documentation does not appear to be the SimOS tools app's strong point, unless I've totally missed something.

Can anyone help?

Last flash was done with a Cobb Accessport. We can't tell what's on it 100% but since APR can't flash over it, 99% chance it has a Cobb tune on it and ECU is locked.

If the previous owner didn’t fully unmarry the AP it’s probably running the Cobb “stock” file. I had the same thing happen when I got my DTR installed. I had to run the uninstall process a second time from the AP.

There were some issues for a long time getting fake CAN chips due to global shortage but that got sorted. You can hit up Switch, buy from sparkfun, or from 8bit (those are switches BTW, you're just paying more for it to buy from 8bit. He's a good tuner though.) Currently direct from Switch is the cheapest as it includes shipping.

Thanks! is it a Cobb flash downgrade just by the symptoms you're describing or was there something in the log that indicated that? It wouldn't surprise me that the original owner got a tune and then went back to stock to cover their tracks when they traded it in.

The symptoms are the same as my mine - ECU can’t be read by APR’s utility and

Had the same issue. After my uninstalling my AP I thought everything was cash money. 2 days later when I was getting my car flashed w/DTR tune the shop said they couldn’t read my ECU. Had to run the uninstall process a second time on the AP and then everything worked.

Going to use vcds for the first time in a bit, to diagnose a p00b7 code. I'm suspecting a thermostat issue, but how can I use vcds to confirm this issue and eliminate other issues before I replace thermostat and water pump later today?

Symptoms: high coolant dash gauge observed during a short city drive. Had to make multiple breaks to keep below hot range. Oil temp rose to 190f which is the norm for a ~10 min drive. Fluids checked out okay.

Accidentally tore up my hatch weatherstripping when pushing a huge block of tooling foam into my car. Think this might be risking a leak, or can I get away with it as just cosmetic damage since it's at the bottom of the door?

Fix it. Trunks already have a nasty habit of leaking. If you replace it and have a leak down the road, you'll know how old your boot gasket is.
