Who knows anything about glass repair?

I picked up a rock somewhere and just noticed it last night. The tiniest of pinholes on the outside that you can't feel (but can see) with the tiniest of hairline cracks going about 6 inches out from either side of the impact - but - it is well under the line of sight and in the frit (below the dots and in the black area) and about mid-car. I cannot see it from inside the car.

Crappy picture but it gives you an idea of where it is. The bullseye is on the inside.

I'm unsure about how this could be repaired, but I'd obviously rather get it fixed rather than replace it.
I filed a glass claim a few months ago on the State Farm app, and the prompts said something about cracks bigger than 6" (or something thereabouts) or going in multiple directions qualified for full replacement only. Granted, mine was a vertical crack right through the center line that forked at the top.

If you do get a replacement, do everything in your power to avoid safelite. SF approved oe glass by a specialist, for my case.

That just happened to me

I was impressed with the machine safelite had. Vacuum and then fill with some sort of epoxy, then UV heat seal. The main impact bullseye is still there but the epoxy was forced into all the legs and looks much better

Yes, I will do everything in my power to avoid safelite for a replacement - but I'd certainly have them do a repair.

Exactly what I was looking for. I think I'll drive by my local Safelight place to see if they think they can repair it. As it is in a place that is nearly invisible, I don't really care what it looks like (within reason) as long as it is structurally sound.

I'll swap it out when I get a proper crack... 🙁☹️

So most big insurance companies use the Safelite Network, but there’s other vendors within the Safelite Network that you can use. Obviously they try to push the Safelite branded repair company, but you can ask for other vendors.

Have you tried something like this if you don't want to replace it?

All of the Safelite locations in my area (there are 4) have between two and three stars on yelp - quite unimpressive.

yes, but these things don't work to well on cracks as far as I know.

yeah, I used one of those years ago when I got a chip on my month old Yukon. Worked pretty well and it was top left on the windshield. I covered the crack on the inside with one of those oil change stickers so it would quit bothering me. It was way up high so the sticker covered it perfectly.

it's cracked. Once it gets beyond the size of a quarter it should be replaced.

unless you want to try the bumper sticker repair again

Can someone tell me what bracket this is? (driver side)
Is that plug for the fog lamps? Sorry, I know I should've taken a closer look the other day

Yeah, you're right. In the garage, the crack spread across the windshield and down to the bottom of the windshield.
Both times my glass got rocked (pun intended), they were repairable immediately, but within 12hrs grew massively. 2nd time, I literally walked inside, pissed off that i got the bullseye, walked back out and it went full vertical. We're talking minutes. It's never fun having to make a claim or scratching money together, but I can't not fix issues immediately. Bless my wife for talking me down.

Yeah, now the glass companies are trying to tell me that I have a heated windshield. 2019 Golf Alltrack SEL - Lane departure, rain sensor, auto highbeams.

Anybody have a part number?
