Ok that's five webpages I read without an answer to my question so I'll ask the experts. I have three driving modes... normal, sport and custom. If I pick normal it puts a D on my instrument panel, if I pick sport it puts an S there.

So how are the Custom settings applied? It doesn't seem like there is a C mode or anything so when are those settings used? Does it modify sport mode maybe? How can I tell?

Thank you!

What is the trim level of your car?

Disclaimer of manual vs dsg and different year, but I have a button between the seats that cycles normal-sport-custom with multiple presses. This is assuming you are taking about the settings for soundaktor, throttle response, etc. It also comes up on the infotainment showing which you've selected and tiles for the other modes.

I don't think the trans has any settings in Custom mode but I'll check when I get back in my car shortly and let you know tonight.

i have a 6spd too but ya it sounds like he's confusing the drive mode with the DSG trans mode lol

Yes I'm DSG sorry I forgot to mention it. I'm glad I posted this in the stupid questions thread. So I went down to the car and did some testing. If I've just turned the car on the value in the upper right (circle below) is D1. Which I took to mean Normal Driving Mode. If I pull the shifter back it changes to S1 which I took to mean Sport Mode.

This was reinforced when I used the driving mode button since if you pick Normal or Sport on your center console the center dash indicator toggles between D1 and S1 along with a big notice, also circled below. What I never tested was setting the driving mode to Normal with the driving mode button, then using back-stick to switch to S1... because when I do I notice that it STILL says Normal (when hitting the driving mode button) even though the center dash indicator now says S1.

Also if I'm in D1 and I use the button to switch to custom it changes to S1. So what I'm guessing is that the driving mode button, the D1/S1 and the back-stick aren't necessarily doing the same thing.

lol.... i've never even driven a DSG before but im gonna guess the # is the gear it's in and D/S is just showing what drivetrain setting you have it in, which changes throttle mapping and shift points

not sure what's so confusing about it?

it goes like this:

Normal/Sport driver profiles automatically switch the DSG to D/S when you switch to those modes. You can then change the DSG back to D/S, while retaining the parameters of normal vs sport driver profiles (soundaktor, throttle response, steering weight, and if your car is an SE w/ DCC then it would also affect your suspension setting).

When I had a DSG GTI I kept it in Sport driver profile always because I preferred the throttle response and steering weight, and I used VCDS to turn off the soundaktor because I didn’t like that.

I also liked how D slowed the car down with downshifts, so I always used that when slowing down, but D sucked for getting started from a stop so I would use S for 1st-2nd gear, then pop it back to D so I could use some of the RPM range above 2K while accelerating. Then I’d usually go into manual while at-speed.

Driving DSG is a matter of figuring out the various behaviors, and adjusting which ones you prefer at any moment for any desired function.

That's correct they are not the same thing.

So won't the DSG tune affect the expected operation of the Normal, Sport, and Custom modes, in terms of the transmission? What do DSG tunes do to these modes?
A DSG tune does nothing to those modes. If you select the custom mode you'll see that the transmission is not one of the mode selections.

The transmission is not affected by the Nirmal/Sport/Custom modes! All they do is switch the trans to D/S when you switch to them. You can then do whatever you want with the trans modes

I need a birthday present - a trickle charger for a 2015 6cyl Chevy Equinox. My sister just replaced the original battery but the car (15k miles) is only used a couple of times a year so the new battery (last week) will undoubtedly die before it gets used again. The car is garaged in New Mexico - so very dry.

I'm looking for something that is easy to use, reliable and something that they'll be able to figure out. I have a guy there that can hook it up initially.

Bonus points for something from Amazon or one of the main chains (Autozone/Advance)
