What are the mk7/7.5 facebook groups to join?
I don't have an Android phone for OBDeleven unfortunately. Should I go VCDS or get an Android tablet for OBDeleven?
Does OBDeleven also support multiple cars? I see that the cheapest VCDS allows you to use it on up to 3 cars, which would be perfect for me (my brother and roommate also got new Golfs).
VCDS is the better of the two. It is from a more serious company that actually knows what they are doing.
Another dumb question then - will the dealer be able to tell I messed with stuff through VCDS and somehow void my warranty, kind of like a TD1 flag from an APR tune?

I’m old enough to remember when we called them by the A and B chassis numbers. About 5yrs ago I had a newish VW nut look at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead when I said I’ve owned an “A1, A2, and A3 GTI”.
“Mk” pronounced “mark” denotes the generation of the car (Mitsubishi would call it the evolution). Most parts designed for a Mk7 are designed to fit a 2012-2019, but pay close attention to the years listed. The 2017-2019 are a mid generation face-lift, and colloquially called the Mk7.5. If we were mAd TyTe JdM, it would be zenki and kouki.
Many parts are interchangeable between the mk7 and mk7.5, and likewise between the different levels and vehicles... Jetta to Golf to GLI to GTI to R. (Won’t bring into play all the other interchangeable bits with other monikers).
When in doubt, ask here or the part manufacturer or shop/tuner for some support.
Just saw your follow up. I think you mean the Golf R center exit. What year, model, and trim do you have?
No, you’re only adjusting factory parameters anyway.
If they know the car well (which they should) they'll be able to tell some of the things you did, like mirror dip on reverse or urban joke tails, things like that. But it won't void your warranty unless you wen tin and somehow long coded something to brick your system which i s unlikely
I don't think that's a stupid question at all, and quite relevant to this forum. If you mess with coding enough to screw up important functions, I would not expect the dealer to cover it under warranty. They should charge you shop time.
vagcom is more of a pro tool. If I had a laptop I would have gone that route....instead I have a cheap phone and bought OBD on one of the ebay 15% off days (ecs tuning?).
there shouldn't be any wtty issues with it but before you do ANY changes learn how and do a back-up of original settings. If you mess up with either it ain't vw's fault but just changing comfort blink to 4 or adjusting gas mileage readout, hill holder etc is fine.
Why does my phone (and my old phone) for that matter always prompt me to give the car permission to access bluetooth every time I enter the car? Why on earth won't my permission save? I must be missing something
Mine does the same. Haven't looked too far into it but it bothers the hell out of me
