UPDATE: just got back from VW after having finally seen and driven a Golf R!! It was a red 5dr DSG and safe to say that I'm no longer nervous about having ordered one blind, I'm not just insanely excited about getting mine next month.

What a car, absolutely outstanding pace, incredible traction, not 100% on the steering but otherwise a very VERY impressive car indeed!!

Matt
The steering? It's perhaps one of the best feaures, when you get back into an 'ordinary' car that is one of the things you will notice the extra turns required, I like the way it is light to the touch too (yes you can stiffen it with the modes).

The way in which it works ie no of turns lock to lock and the speed sensitivity are great but in terms of general feel when pushing on it's not all there for me!

That said I've spent the past two years driving a mk4 so I'm no expert as the mk4 has THE worst steering feel of any hot hatch I've ever driven!! I had a GT86 last year though and despite the fact that it's a terrible car the feedback through the wheel was a revelation!

I was tempted by an M135i before the R and that had awful steering!!

Cheers - Matt

The trouble is before I got a mk6 gti I looked at a 125i m sport 1 series coupe, the interior plastics were rubbish. I loved the exterior styling but build quality let it down.

The new golf r looks a quality product in all ways.

Haha apologies, it's a Yorkshire thing I'm sure!

Just means nervous, sh@#ing a brick or something along those lines?!

Either way it's true, I really am bricking it haha

Cheers - Matt

thanks matt.

i thought it had something to do with detailing your car...seems many are so passionate about that procedure on this forum.

we actually use just 'bricks' not 'bricking' meaning the same exact thing. duh, on my part.

i have mentioned in many posts that i really like british english! :)

all i know about your place is something about pudding. lol

hmmm, i know you didn't ask and may not be interested, but let me return the favor on your 'bricking' terminology;

1. 'my sphincter is a bit tight' = nervous
2. 'i'm sweating more than a whore in church' = nervous
3. 'i'm laying, cutiing, producing cable/pipe' for the actual act of defacation.

some brilliant one's in greek too. maybe geomets will come along to give his input.

just a few we have over here to try and match your 'bricking.'

thanks again for making laugh.

again, congrats and enjoy your car when it arrives. and, i'm glad you are not 'bricking' over your decision anymore.

PROGRESS!! My car is due for delivery to the dealership around the 14th April.

Anyone care to estimate how long it will take the dealer to put some plates on and scratch a few panels?

Cheers - Matt

More developments: been to see a mate that works at a dealer this aft for a blast in a Manual 3dr R with cloth.

Absolutely loved it, car is so much more visceral with a manual box, the DSG is far too good at its job in my opinion. Also I was regretting my decision to go with cloth after seeing other members cars with cloth but they really do look much better in the flesh.

I still can't get over how loud it is though!! And the difference between Eco and race modes is like night and day.

Less than 4 weeks now... Cannot wait!!

It is going to be a long wait.....

I was really concerned about the cloth, but I'm loving it....it looks superb, everyone that has seen it so far thinks it looks superb. It just doesn't photograph that well, looks great in the cloth...

Race is rather loud, with DSG it also keeps the gears rather long....I just drive in normal for 90% of the time....Once I'm on the country lanes near my home in the middle of nowhere I'll switch to race and have some proper fun...

When I ordered my R all the cloth interior was black, 2 weeks after the Configurator had changed to the light coloured sides etc. I was stressing like hell until I got to see it in real life as it wasn't what I had ordered and the few pics on the internet didn't look good. The interior doesn't photograph well at all but it does look good.
