MK7 GTI 6M JB1 Map6 30-90 Vid

2 door manual MK7 GTI with JB1/Map6 2nd and 3rd gear 30-90 pull, granny shifting around 65mph on flat surface.
Pulls very smoothly with no clutch issue when starting WOT pull in second; as opposed to getting a few hundred rpm jump during WOT starting around 3k rpms in 3rd-5th gears.
Anyway, this is similar to map 1 but a little lower 3500-4000 because of a slight throttle closer seen in datalogs.
I am using the following map6 settings in this video:
1500 0
2000 1
2500 2
3000 3.5
3500 4.6
4000 4.6
4500 4.8
5000 4.8
5500 4.8
6000 4.8
6500 4.4
7000 3

Yeah usually 4 banger turbo cars have gears that are too short and can't even hit 60 in 2nd gear.
The GTI manual gearing is actually shorter than the DSG. It's the final rear gearing that is taller.

There are advantages to taller gearing. Nothing like a long pull with bigger power applications. Also help with traction especially in a front driver.

Thanks. 2nd gear spins some with map6 (Map1 +5-like settings) but I'm keeping more conservative for now until it get nice and cold out.

2nd and 3rd are pretty long! I can pretty much get around a racetrack all in 3rd... starting from 40 mph all the way to 105mph or so

Good run, I timed right around 5.6-5.8.

No idea how you get ANY traction in first though. Anything more than 50% and it just bounces the limiter for me. Stock tires are absolutely terrible for dry grip.

I can definitely do better too and this is only on +3 boost...
I try to gradually ease into first rather than just matting it.

Im sure the colder roads up in Ontario aren't helping with traction.
