Do you think VW would sell cars with droning exhaust to the public?

As a general rule? No, but I think its entirely possible there is a scenario where there might be some drone that this person is sensitive to or may not have experienced before.

The drone is present it is now a case of what to try next as the car performs nice otherwise.

Reluctant to sell this car unless i have to so will try all suggestions.

Exhaust is standard from factory.

The drone may not be as bad as some of you guys encounter after your mods but at the rev range i posted my car does develops a drone.
Will this Vibrant resonator help over the standard one, is it worth a try?

I do not know what else to try or check other than this, out of ideas now.

Case closed, that’s not going to be your issue or solution.

Obviously the car didn’t have this drone when you purchased it. So think back to when it started and what that correlates with. Either some other modification or damage caused it to start.

Have an exhaust shop guy ride with you and get their opinion.

car has always had this drone

Then I’d recommend adding sound deadening to the entire hatch area and possibly behind each door card if that’s not enough.

Everyone perceives sound differently, and in your case you’re on the sensitive end of the spectrum. Not saying that’s a bad thing, everyone is different.

That will be your best bet at lowering overall noise in the cabin. Volkswagen had a whole team of engineers to quiet the factory exhaust, my thread is just solutions I’ve come up with for after that German engineering has been tampered with.

I agree Jake. It's basically a family car and there would be multiple complaints if it were true. There's info missing here or it's not an exhaust drone.

I have sound deadened the rear of the car plus wheel wells and door cards but drone is still present.

will try exhaust specialist next then and get car on a ramp.

Circling back about this. Would love to hear what this sounds like on your car as it has some components of what I've been planning for my 6MT pre-facelift Golf R.

After weeks of reading about theories behind exhausts, talking with fabricators, and listening to 100's of setups I've finally decided on my approach.

I'm planning on doing a Frankenstein-like setup with: stock DP -> Vibrant 17950 -> BCS Helmholtz res delete -> Remus Valved suitcase muffler

Here ya go. Hope this helps somewhat. sorry it took so long but been crazy busy with work.
Corralled my 12yo daughter to do the launch and fly by video. Both are crap quality, rushed, and honestly don't really do it justice, but at the end of the day only can do so much to make a 4 banger sound good anyways.
Mods = IE DP/Vibrant 17950/BCS Res Delete/Stock R Suitcase Muffler/VWR600/Vortex Std
I'm definitely swapping out the IE DP at some point for a Trackslag to help with the spool hit we take up here at 6k ft. I'm sure that will change the sound and get a bit louder even though I will go with the catted version

I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to take those videos. That's extremely helpful.

Talking with Nigel from BCS, he warned that their res delete was created to eliminate drone with stock setups and could not guarantee it would cancel drone the same way with alterations like adding a Vibrant 17950 or an aftermarket down pipe. I suspected it wouldn't make a difference, and I think you've just proved that.

To be clear, you don't experience drone right?

Unfortunately, yes there is a touch of drone. It's not horrible but it's there for sure cruising 3k neighborhood. As you are porbably aware most of the feedback on the BCS Res delete is over on vwroc.com since most of their sales is in the Europe market (being a UK based co). For people that don't have a weird set up like mine it seems to have universally great feedback with eliminating drone, but with the DP and the Vibrant it definitely alters everything enough that there is some drone present.

What would work best for reducing sound, 1142 vibrant resonator next to fuel tank or 12219 MagnaFlow Oval muffler next to fuel tank. Set up currently is CTS catted downpipe to stock catback exhaust.

You might as well straight pipe it at this point.
