I have an APR catted downpipe mated to AWE Switchpath exhaust. Where should I have the Vibrant 17950 welded? Also, I wouldn’t need to buy anything else in addition to the actual resonator for install? Just bring the resonator to a shop?

AWE Switchpath sounded good stage1 stock downpipe once the exhaust was through its break in. Apr Downpipe was added and sheeesh, that drone from 2800-3200 rpm is not for me. Valves on the Switchpath do a great job. The drone is bearable, but I do miss the quiet rides of my daily stock R. I have faith in adding the Vibrant resonator. Very curious to see if the the aggressive tone to the Switchpath system remains after the install.

I had the same drone but at around 2200 RPM and had the Vibrant resonator welded in a straight section of the exhaust roughly around the back seat area.

For an R to fit a 17950 both the downpipe and catback need significant modification.

The only place it’ll fit is along the driveshaft.

I’d highly recommend finding a reputable fabricator to do the work, not a muffler shop...let them booger weld someone’s crush bent mild steel Corolla exhaust, your R deserves better

Good thing I asked. Would love to take a road trip over by your neck of the woods and have it done at your shop. I’m over here in Jersey, going to see if I find a reputable fabricator near me.

@GTI Jake Have you considered adding to your OEM fitment products for the stock exhaust? Something like this:

Midpipe section 1 with 17950 and 3" inlet (for aftermarket downpipes) and outlet
(exhaust sleeve clamp)
Midpipe section 2 with Vibrant 1107 or 1127 and 3" inlet and outlet
(3"-to-OEM reducer and exhaust sleeve clamp)
Stock/CSS suitcase muffler

I'm going to add a 17950 to my CTS CBE based on all the great feedback on this setup and plan on doing this in my garage with a rental tailpipe cutter from O'Reily's. I'm planning on fitting the resonator with a pair of 3" Yonaka V-Band Exhaust Clamps. Any thoughts on going this route versus getting them welded by a fabricator?

Thanks!

V bands get welded on, and as always I recommend contacting your local fabricator.

Will be watching this thread. Installed the CB rev9 last night and there is some drone. Odd fact, I had a resonator delete and stock muffler/tips before and there really wasn't any "Drone" or noticeable drone. Could be the exhaust breaking in, will give it a few weeks. But it is possible I will switch to the vibrant resonator. This muffler has 4" resonators (2) but we will see what happens after a few weeks.

Really comparing apples to oranges there, the OEM suitcase muffler is giant and cambered.

If your new set up drones it’s not going to fix itself or change drastically. A exhaust “breaking in” is the associated smell of packing materials and cutting fluids burning off the first few heat cycles. Nothing will get quieter or less harsh as a result of that.

Alright guys I've read through about 45 pages of this thread lol I have a 16 gti with ihx 475. Catted CTS downpipe, stock resonator, vibrant resonator and stock suitcase. I just ordered the AFE axel back to eliminate the suitcase. Car is super quite at the moment no drone whatsoever. I apologize if this has been covered already but eliminating the suitcase with the current setup with the afe axel back from what I've read will be very very loud? I'm looking for aggressive but not obnoxious. Thanks for any info
