Just do an OEM CSS muffler. Simple bolt on and great sound ??
This. But don't toss your OEM muffler. You'll go DP one day (like we all do) and you'll hate it.
Do either a custom muffler delete (Louder and some drone) or the CSS as recommended above.

In case you ever do go DP (you probably will want to eventually) definitely take digs advice and keep the OEM muffler as I had to put mine back on after DP and Vibrant res. I had a muffler delete and it sounded poopoo.

I forgot to mention that I am going with a center exhaust... I have the valance and the tips waiting.

I had a mk7 Golf with the votex kit and center exhaust that was wrecked. Upgraded to the GTI and want that center exhaust back lol.

in that case, the "back axle" section will need to be custom with no muffler behind the "axle" anyways unless they make a kit already...so just add a single muffler to the section where most aftermarkets put them (right before rear suspension section) i prefer borla so that would be my reccomendation.

I’ve used Borla XS Pro on a few CBE & TBE.

This is a R, stock downpipe. 3” CBE with no resonator and a Borla muffler. Sounds good, but pretty tame.

Would that have bad drone? Would that be the Borla Pro XS? Sounds pretty good.

Drone is basically impossible with the factory downpipe, none at all with this set up.

Yes it’s the Borla Pro XS or XS Pro (idk which I haven’t bought one in a few years), but for a mild setup it sounds great in person

That's what I am going for. Louder than stock but still refined.

Wouldn’t matter catted vs catless, AWE was the missed target off the bat
Wanted to update the thread, got my vibrant res installed today and I’m 90% happy. Zero drone, still sounds throaty and loud when stomping on it, but near stock sounding when cruising. Wish it was 15% louder but Im happy!

Just picked up a Hooker Blackheart with their resonator for less than half price. On the stock DP I'm getting way more drone than expected, almost all between 1.7-3k RPM's. Planning to add a downpipe in the future, MAP or IE, would swapping to the vibrant resonator be the best plan?

My GTI has an APR downpipe, Vibrant 17950 and a Magnaflow catback. The drone is only present going up a hill, under a load but hardly objectionable. Also a bit on the highway if on a slight incline in 6th gear but again, not bad at all. Won't ever be mistaken for stock, outside of idle. Over all, a nice sound but WOT is loud and will attract the police.

The Hooker system has got what Flowmaster calls a laminar muffler, not sure what impact that will have. I really like the deep tone and noise level outside of that 1.7-3k RPM range.

The Vibrant resonator will make a huge difference. Drone will be a non-issue under most conditions.

Not too expensive either, amazon has it for $76. Wondering if I should wait until I get a downpipe, so I don't have to make too many modifications.

If you buy basically any downpipe other than MAP you can remove the reducer and run 3” seamlessly to the 17950.

So yes ideally do it all at the same time
