Pffffft

Cobb still has no interest in the platform. A Korean group was able to make simple changes to timing boost and fuel. But nothing substantially better than a jb4. The dsg, no one’s even trying on cracking that tcu either.
When I had my 16 a local place just tuned it. I had 2 ECU 's. A stock and a tuned one. With bolt ons and stock turbo it dynoed 250 HP and 270 torque.

Wasn't my lord and savior but I liked my 16 Veloster Turbo. Hopped that up as far as I could with the torque limit of the 16 DSG. Had the N been available with a DSG when I got my GTI I would have got the Veloster instead.

Dude, I was just kidding. I like the car, except the whole right side of it and the door cards. The door cards had more plastic that a pornstar convention.

They did make the interior cheaper than the 16 model I had. I'm not nuts about the media center either. Lots of companies are doing that now and to me it looks like they stuck a tablet on the dashboard.

That was the one area that didn't really bother me. It has some decent textures around it and didn't look terrible, like Mazada's tablet stuck on the dash look. If I could get over the 3 door thing and the door cards had some cloth inserts or something to break up the expanses of plastic, I would have considered an N PP. I think they're the best bang for the buck in the class. It'll be interesting to see if anyone supports the ECU tuning in the future.

Which is the better buy- GTI Mk 7 or Focus ST (2017 model)? In terms of ownership costs?

A used Focus ST costs a bit less than a GTI but the GTI has better fuel economy. Which car is more reliable? Replacement parts for the Focus ST will likely be less expensive.
The GTI has a nicer interior and is more practical in terms of cargo space.
The Focus ST, on the other hand really has a nice, deep rumble to it and is more of a boy racer. Also, I love those Recaro seats!

Which would be the better buy?
Bro, I bought my 2017 GTI S for $23k brand new. At the time, I was looking at Focus ST’s, and the cheapest around (base mode) was $28.5k. Focus ST’s were definitely more than the GTI then. Not anymore though, because new GTI prices have gone up (I got my GTI at the perfect time), but back then, the ST’s were substantially more for the base model versions.

Also, the GTI is better in every way. Much nicer interior, more interior room, better mpg’s, more tech, much faster when tuned, the list goes on. The ST sounds better, but that’s subjective. Stock, the ST handles better, but if both cars get coilovers, the GTI handles better.

I was looking at STs around that same time and they were certainly cheaper in my area. The cheapest I saw was $16k brand new(10k discount).

Same. The st’s I saw with the hdmi exhaust tip was cheap. Cheaper than the used Gti’s by a good bit too.
