Embarrassingly, for the 3rd time In 2 years I've missed 4th gear from 3rd during WOT. I know it's bad, but could any of you shed light on just how bad? or am I being way over cautious? I'm APR stage 1 LO
As in you put it in 2nd?
Had this happen several times in my last car (mk6 TDI) with the stock shifter due to the vagueness of the shifter. Replaced the shifting mechanism with the diesel geek sigma 6 shifter and also replaced the plastic cable bracket with the APR cable bracket.
Those two mods helped quite a bit improving the feel of shifts. You know when you're in gear when you shift. I very rarely if ever missed a shift with that set up.
Woah, that's different!Yes**
Crap, I forgot to put that part in
I pushed the clutch in very quickly after
Woah, that's different!
I was taught this technique for the 3 -> 4 shift. Helps to prevent the 3 > 2...

His way of going to 6th is a bit odd, but putting a bit of pressure to the right while using the same hand position for the 3 > 4 is the way to get it done.
I pretty much ALWAYS use the way that he does in the video for my 3 > 4 out of habit![]()
You could've over rev'd the engine and bent the valves
Did it on my Focus SVT (years ago) after I installed a short shifter (facepalm gif here)
Any way of telling other than pulling the valve cover?
It seems to drive and idol just fine as of now.
If it drives fine, idles fine, and doesn't have any backfires you more than likely didn't bend a valve. You could do a compression test if you are paranoid. Seeing how this is the internet, everyone will tell you to replace your engine it's toast, in reality it is probably fine, just don't make a habit of it.
